SN95/new-edge brake upgrade questions
SN95/new-edge brake upgrade questions
Hello,
I have a 2001 GT and I'm thinking about upgrading the front brakes to the Cobra/Mach-1 brakes (rotor and caliper kit). For anyone who has done this front-brake upgrade on a SN95/new edge, do the GT's stock rear solid-rotors and stock calipers need to be upgraded to vented Cobra/Mach-1 rear brakes to keep good braking balance, or is it OK to leave the GT's stock rear braking system in place? I have no plans to race this car. I am just looking to upgrade what I feel is mediocre braking performance from the stock GT braking system.
Also, for anyone who has done a GT brake upgrade to Cobra/Mach-1 spec brakes, how obvious is the performance inprovement from the change? Is it wortht the cost?
Thanks

You'll be fine leaving the stock rears. Your cars braking power is done by I would guess 85% the front brakes. Thats why the bullitt/cobra/mach1 upgrade is so great for the sn95 cars!
I had a 00gt and then went to a 96 cobra and the braking power is definitely a noticeable difference.
A tip while your that far into it, might want to invest in some stainless steel front brake lines to eliminate any fade that might be coming from the stock rubber ones.
You'll have a great street brake system.

Thanks for the info. I planned on getting the stainless lines all-around (front and rear). In addition, I'll probably paint the rear calipers to match the Cobra/Mach calipers. Should look nice.
