It's likely impossible to tell what the relay is for given only a part number. There are likely more than one of them used on your vehicle. The location/use of all relays and fuses is typically in the owner's manual, which can be found online if you no longer have it.

I'm sure... Did you read my post? It's just a part number. There are thousands of those in existence, all with that number on it.

Check which socket you pulled it from, then check the fuse diagram to see what it controls.

A few sites hinted it might be related to the rear defroster, but I have found nothing definitive.

And you can see it in the pictures, so I bet it is.

However, it's a relay. Relays can be used for all sorts of things, not just latches and radio amps.

YUP!!! THANKS!!

I have complete;y restored a 97, but the trunk is still off as the new soft top is going on the 20th. I saw this piece on my parts shelf and was baffled..
