Parking brake doesn't register - fix?

I have a 2000 V6 Convertible. When I activate the parking brake lever, I have to activate and deactivate it many times before the parking brake alert light will illuminate in the dash. Since I can't lower or raise the top without the light illuminated, this is a big pain. Is there any way that I can bypass the lever so that the parking brake light is always illuminated? Any help is greatly appreciated!

Sounds like the sensor is bad. Replace that and it will probably fix your problem.
