M.P.G

So I recently purchased my 2003 mustang vert gt about a month ago, well I notice I'm only getting around 200-220 miles per tank. is this normal for just around town driving? I only live around four miles from work and my daily total commute is about 13 miles. I rarely ever get in it real hard, but I never get above 45 mph the whole commute. Just wondering what the average mpg anyone is getting in their gt. I currently have no mods and don't know of any that has been done to the car. I have a radiator leak a believe coming from the thermostat bur besides that she is in perfect running condition. Any feedback would be great. Thanks in advance guys!

Wow that does seem low. You should be getting much closer to 300 miles per tank. My 02 GT gets about that (20mpg).

Is there any way of telling if the gears have been changed in her at all? Would that cause a huge drop like that in miles? I do need to get new tires also, they have about ten thousand or less left on them

the 4 mile trip to work is what's killing you. If I'm driving hwy, it's over 300 miles/tank, but when it's just back and forth around town 5 miles here and there it's 250ish.

Yeah that's what I was thinking too, why can't they raise the speed limit to 65 on surface streets :-)

No check engine lights? One of my o2 sensors is bad in my bullitt the light comes an goes but whenever its on for a few days my mileage will drop a noticeable amount. You could try changing your spark plugs and running better grade gas. Some say a higher octane better quality gas Burns faster but it seems like in my car it lasts longer. I stay in 4th around town 45-50mph it gives a nice peppy feel an I'm barely on the gas. Other than that its a Mustang lol a v8 at 4 dollars a gallon

Lmao yeah I knew I wast going to be getting 20+ mpg in the city, but no there isn't any check engine lights, and really everything seems to be in great mechanical condition. Except that I think there is a coolant Leak where the thermostat is, right where the upper radiator hose comes into the top of the thermostat. I guess it's a bad seal or something? It never runs hot, just leaks. Didn't think that would affect my gas though. Don't know how much it will cost to replace but I'm sure it can't be to drastic. Yeah I try and stay in 4th too, putting It into 5th/ od makes my rpms hover around 1100-1300 and feels like I'm consuming even more gas by just trying to take it easy.

It idles around 600-800 rpms once it warms up around a 1k when I first crank her up in the mornings. I only drive to drop my little girl off at day care, and to work , about four miles there and four back so round trip of 8- 13 miles if i go out for lunch. No bad smell at all, no smell of gas. And it's bone stock as far as I can tell. It lived most of it's life in florida, but don't think that would make any difference.
