Jack Question

Anyone know who makes a good jack?

My wife got me a craftsmen 4 ton jack for father’s day. I used it to change my oil and to put my new wheels on and that's about it. This weekend I went to install my chin spoiler so I thought it would be easier to get the front in the air a bit. I start jacking the car up and all of the sudden fluid start leaking from the jack and the car starts coming down. Upon further review, the jack is shot so it's going back but I'm not getting another craftsmen jack. I always use jack stands but having a jack come down like that is pretty scary.

The problem is I need a jack that is low enough to get under the chin spoiler after my pro kit is installed but also be able to lift my wife's 5700 lb. Cherokee.

I saw this one from Jeg's but don't know anything about their quality.

Yeah, I ended up using some no name jack that we keep in our racing trailer. I was under the impression that this would be a good jack but I guess i was wrong.

Blue, the Summit jack is 189.00. I looked at it but it's only a 2 ton jack. I need at least a 3 ton so i can use the same jack for the stang and the SUV.

why would you need 3 ton? thats 6000lbs. and i'm pretty sure you are not lifting the complete vehichle off the ground by 1 jack point.

2ton should be fine on a SUV. jacking up one side of a 4000lbs vehicle would only be like 2000lbs at max.

so even a 2 ton should be fine.

I honestly didn't think about it that way. Just figured it weighed close to 3 tons so should get a jack that could put up 3 tons. I have access to a lift so the only thing I'm really doing on the Jeep with the jack is changing oil and rotating tires.

Thanks.

Ramps from Auto Zone

I have the same problem on my lowered Roush. I suggest using ramps then use your floor jack to take it from there. I also use a cheap Auto Zone sissor jack to pre-raise the car for big moma my floor jack.

Thanks guys. I think I'm going to go with the 2 ton aluminum jack from Summit. It's a little more there but I have gift card I need to use anyway so no worries. I’m going the aluminum route so I don’t have to lug a 150lb jack to the track when I eventually turn this into a track car. I can also get a cheap jack for the Jeep down the road if need be but I really only need it to rotate the ties since I can fit under it with no problem for oil changes by just getting it up off the suspension a bit.
