Hood Struts

It's starting to get close to track season and I'm gather items for the car to get her ready to run again.

One of the things that really got annoying last year was fighting with the prop rod after every run so I'm looking for a set of hood struts for this season. This way I can lift the hood, drop my bag of ice on the plenum and head off to the snack bar with ease.

I know MRT makes a set that looks to be a direct bolt on. Does anyone have any experience with them or any other brands? Also, where's a good place online to get them? I Only want direct bolt ons since I have no desire to modify my hood.

They look interesting but it looks like you need to drill and rivet to install. I could do that if need be but I would prefer something that just bolts on without modifications.

I had the Redline Tuning ones on my 2000, and liked them very much. But, on my 05, I did the MRT's, because I didn't want to drill.

The drilling isn't difficult, and at the time that I bought the ones for the 2000, redline was the only brand available. With the 05, since the bolt-on ones were available, I couldn't see a reason not to buy them.

Like you, I can't stand the prop rod, because it's impossible to work on the car with it. Here's a pic of the 2000 (red) and the 05 (black). On the black car, the brackets blend in so nicely (and look so good) that it is hard to see, and looks factory.

They both look really good. How are the MRT struts holding up?

Cool, I think I'm going with them.

Thanks.
