Front end clunk with wheel completely turned

With my steering wheel completely turned (usually in a parking lot) . .. . . . I am hearing a serious clunk coming from the front end . . .. . .. no noise on the road. I heard this could be bad bushings in the steering column? Anyone ever seen this? How costly of a repair is this? This on my new SN95 2001 Bullitt . . . . .

Sounds like ball joints. They aren't all that bad to replace.

Mine was doing this a while back and replacing my tie rod ends fixed it. Just a thought.

After 3 weeks of daily driving, this front end clunk in my 01 Bullitt (in the parking lot, when wheel completely turned) went away! Recall I just bought this used car (previous owner had it garaged for some time) . . . . I'm speculating the ball joints and tie rod ends just needed some movement to "break them in" . I was ready to starting changing all thoughs parts! Patience is good!

Do you have slightly over sized tires on your car Leonard? That is usally what will cause that when turned all the way.

That is exactly what that is. Your tires are rubbing when in full turn. Mine do the exact same thing.

thank you guys . .. . . the only problem is I have stock 01 Bullitt wheels? Do other 01 Bullitt owners have this problem? I can't imagine Ford would sell this condition? Or maybe yes?

only applies to the newer vehicles, not the '94-'04 generation

you could still have larger than stock tires on the stock rims, whats the size? It just looks like the tires were making slight contact while at full lock

the clunk you describe sounds like ball joints or tie rod ends. Jack the front end off the ground with the tires still on. Grab the tire at 9 oclock and 3 oclock and rock it. If you feel excessive free play, it's tie rods. Grab the tire at 12 oclock and 6 oclock, if you feel excessive free play and/or a clicking noise, it's ball joints.

Doing that can also be testing for wheel bearings being bad too.

I just checked the tires . . . . .yes it looks like the previous owner put non-OEM tire size on the Bullitt OEM wheels. I have 235/50ZR17 . . . . .. . according to the goodyear site the OEM size is 245 45 ZR17. Could the higher profile tires cause the rub and the full turn sound? I need to change the tires anyways . . .. .

front bearing is interesting . . .. . .along with the full turn clunk . . .. . . I am also hearing a slow speed "wobbling" noise from the front wheel . . .. . I know the brake pads and disc are good . . . .
