just got back from the muffler shop and they installed the FLOWMASTER STANDARD 40 SERIES on our 2001 cobra.i started it up and was AMAZED by the quietness of the new "louder" and "agressiveness"from the new mufflers over the stock.why is it quieter?now i hear louder CIVICS.i know they take a few to brake in but why is my stock exhaust louder than the nice expensive flowmasters?im feeling ripped off and the tone from the stock ones were way better and high compression sounding.complete dissapointment.you 01 cobra owners whats your take on this?what set ups you guys run because this is SAD.

I got the american thunder system on my 05gt and when I first started up my car I had to get out and check to see if they even installed the flows because they were so quiet. I was super pissed But got slp and ecerything was good to go. You should have went with borla stingers, they sound the meanest and most aggressive!

lemme ask you, are you SURE they a 40 series, and not 50's. if they are the 40 series are they delta flow? or are the super 40's or are they 40 series original flows? if they are the delta flow they wont make much of a differnce without doing a catback or changing the mid pipe becuase they delta flows are the quitest 40 series...my father has ran 2 chamber 40's on his ranger and that truck wasnt extremely loud, prolly about the same as a stock mustang (the ranger had a 5.0 V8 in it, cutom truck) and now he runs super 40's in his terminator and the thing is insanely loud...under normal accelration it sound like he's whailing on it. super 40's are by far the nicest sounding on all the sn95's. also have you listened to them with your door open, still like that they may fool you. biut behind the car the difference should be noticable. when i stood behind my fathers term and he revved her up it was SIGNIFICANTLY louder than they are up front, and they are even ear breaking from the front of the car.

good luck on em, check the part number on the box if you ordered em, they might have accidently sent yo the 50's

now you may be correct about this, becuase all of the cars i have heard it done to all have had entire exhuast re-done. the reason dad's cobra is so loud is becuase he has an O/R H and long tubes ontop of the catback...but when you combine flows with the rest of the aftermarket exhuast (i.e. headers midpipe) the are by far the best sounding in my opinion. ill never use another brand. but please if you have to change the exhaust, dont use magnaflows, they sound like sissy exhaust....

It will take time to break in, but unless you got the cheapo flowmasters, it should be louder...
