Cool new toy.

Since my Mach head unit dislikes removing cds I had been forced into carrying a set of long nose pliers in the car to get them out.
I know there is a choice of 6 disks but that is not enough for me. I was looking for a kit that linked the antenna to the radio with a 3.5mm audio jack so that I could plug in my PDA (1GB of music). I had seen them somewhere for $30. I was going to run the plug into the storage compartment.
Hunting round through various stores I ended up at Walmart and found this cool little toy.

It cost me $40 (I think) and I just plugged the SD card from my PDA right in and away it went. No messy wires (I hate wires) great sound with no interference.
Now I have 200 songs (approx 800mins) that I can and do flip through. Changes songs in an instant, no waiting for different cds to load.
The best thing I discovered is that it must interfere with Taxi radios because I was driving through the city and I heard voices very very faintly and the taxi driving in other lane was messing with his radio and passenger in back was smiling as I kept flipping from song to song.
88.1FM. Popular taxi station?

I need to take my other car for a drive and see how far the signal travels. Imagine being on a cruise with everyone tuned to your station.
Considering changing my licence plate to the signal I am broadcasting!!

Sounds cool, hope you have good luck with it.
A long time ago my EX had a 6 disc changer in the trunk of her car and it worked through the radio just like your thing does. But hers sucked big time, constant interferance through the station, major static when driving under power lines etc. It was all installed correctly too, and double checked by an audio shop. They just couldnt stop the radio interferance.

Did it have a good ground? That is more often than not the major reason for interference and static.
Sometimes there is a little distortion but it is not significant and for $40 I really couldnt care less.

Also I tried the signal strength by putting it in one car and then driving offf in the other. Signal lasts for around 40-50 feet but has distortion after around 15 feet.

Glad you got it to work. I received a Kenwood head unit as a gift, and it's an awesome stereo. I even got the wire harness to splice in the factory amp. Anyway, as great as it was, it didnt have the AUX input, which is something I really wanted so I could hook up my MP3 player.

I considered getting the FM transmitter, but I had heard mixed reviews of it (poor operation, fuzzy/static sound) so I held off. I then found an adaptor Kenwood makes that hooks into the CD changer plug (I didnt have a changer anyway), and I just plug the MP3 player into that. I was so happy when I found the adaptor, because there's a lot of stuff I have on my player that i dont have on CD, and I didnt want to make 30 CDs just for my car. Hopefully the thing you found continues to work fine.
