well i was visiting my mechanic today for oil change and all, and he told me insted of installing the K&N filter u should use the stock one drill a 2.5 hole and put hose a from the stock air intake to the back of the front griil, is this true? or that with the CAI that i already have install, i should sorunded the arm with heat resistant material so the air that goes to the manifold doesnt get heated with the heat comming from the engine..
just some questions!!
thanxs in advance! banana.gif

That sounds like a load of crap. The benefits of a CAI are the smoothflow piping and drawing air from the fender well.

Now I don't see a problem with adding a hose from the grill to the CAI, but if you have to many bends and kinks in it, it isn't going to perform well at all. Plus the CAI gives a much cleaner look.

I see a problem with adding a open hose straight into your intake tube.

If you run it without a filter, its gonna suck in dirt, water, etc and get that into your engine. Thats a nono in its own.

The 2nd problem I see is where are you going to connect said hose at? Better be before the MAF because if you dont, you are going to introduce alot of un-metered air into the engine, and 1, it may not run at all due to it, or it will run amazingly lean since the MAF does not know to compensate for the extra air and add fuel.

Yeah thats a stupid idea completely.

Also with the heat resistant material, air is moving through your CAI so quick that it really doesnt have a chance to heat up. Sure it makes sense, but the air in a intake tube is no where near dorment, its constantly pulling through at a fairly high rate of speed. Thats at idle, if you are acctually moving with the car, the air velocity increases with RPM and also wind blowing up from under the car and through teh grill will provide enough to keep any significant heat away from the intake tube.
