Exclamation 98 Mustang 3.8 swap to a 5.4?

My deal is i have a 98 Mustang with the 3.8 and I'm planning on dropping in a 5.4 off of a 99 F-150. So my question is will my transmission work with this engine? What mods would i have to do in order to make this work and any other useful info would be awesome Side note i obviously have never done this before so any help would greatly appreciated

probably cheaper and easier to buy a GT or a Cobra. I dont think the transmission in the V6 will mount to the 5.4. Do not think there is a bellhousing that will work. Believe your transmission is the T-5 still. And the 99 5.4 only makes like 210 HP I believe also

+1

The time, money and results wont be worth doing the swap. Think about it even when you swap the engine over you still have the brakes, suspension, gears.... and so on of a base model. Your best bet is sell your V6 the 99-04 V8s are selling pretty cheap these days.

yeah i did lots of research on this and know how much work it is goin to take... with this local junk yard its goin to be alot cheaper than what most ppl think because like i said everythin is really cheap here.... the thing is finding the parts and getting them before those 1000 ppl that are lookin for that same part

First I'd look for all the mounting hardware to put a mod motor into tthe car. im sure you could find some 4.6L mounts for your car in the yard, I'm pretty sure that will be just fine for the 5.4

transwise try and find a V8 trans to bolt up to the 5.4. shouldnt be too hard, especially since you'll already be lookign for 4.6L mounts/ after that you'll have the fun of wiring and headers (dunno how tough that is) then i guess just beeef up the front suspension to deal with the weight.

this seems to be mostly 4v stuff but still some helpful hints on a 5.4 swap. hope this helps

well today i started doin some research on the f150 and it turns it comes with both the 4.6 or 5.4... i went out and measured the stroke of the engine i have and i think i might have a 4.6???? measurement was at around 3.75in but the stroke of the 4.6 is at around 3.54??? so im really not sure what i have here????

measure the width of it. i think that link i sent you shows the dimension difference

28 1/4" wide, from head to head. The 4.6 is 26 5/8" wide from head to head.
do you have any pics of the motor?

if you are sure the engine came out of a 1999 F150, they dont show the 5.4L as an optional engine. So I think you have a 4.6L which is rated at 220hp in the F150

well supringsingly i got a day off today and will be looking a bit more into the engine... even if it is rated at just 220 the $1200 i saved from goin to a regular junk yard will be goin into several mods for more hp so the hp at this point aint really bothering me... it just sounded like a pretty fun project to do

my bad...there was glitch on kbb.com. it didnt list the 5.4 as an option on regular F150's unless you chose the lightning. Called ford and the 5.4 was an option hahaha

if you do have a 5.4 you are going to have hood clearance issues also
