5-Speed Trans Recommendation
Would anybody be so kind as to recommend an aftermarket shifter for a stock 5-sp trans? i'm looking for an easy-to-install shifter that will slide into gear a little easier for around $150-$200. if anyone has a shifter they love, or has had a really bad experience with one, i'd like to know. thanks! -Dan
I've used a steeda tri-ax and the pro5.0. The tri-ax handle is a great design and to me seems like a better short shifter for street use when you are cruising and want a fast throw.
The pro5.0 has a straight up short handle, and feels better to me at the track when you are sitting closer to the wheel and more on top of the shifter.
Both feel great and im undecided on my next car which one i will use.

I will probably get flamed for this, but I had a triax in my 96 gt and hated the thing. To the point that I left it on the car all of about two weeks before putting my stock shifter back on and selling the thing for a loss.
If you are looking for a smoother transition into the gears, then I would stick with the stock shifter. Aftermarket shifters have a "notchy" feel to them, or at least all the ones I have driven did. While the shift throws (distance from one gaer to the next) were considerably shorter than stock, the triax was far from what I would consider to be smooth.

Thanks for the suggestions. since i'm looking for a shorter-throw street shifter, i'd be willing to lean more towards the tri-ax. Except that apparently, not everyone likes it. Hmmmm, i've got a tough decision here... -Dan
The Tri-ax is slightly "notchy", but I know that when I want to go from 2nd to 3rd, speed shifting all I have to do is push the lever forward and it "finds" 3rd gear. I have had a B and M and a Tri-ax and have driven a car with a Pro 5.0 and I always recommend the Tri-Ax.

A vote for Tri-Ax here too. Mine is actually hybrid, I have a Tri-Ax base with a Pro 5.0 upper shift lever.

I ran the oppisite for quite some time in the cobra. Pro5.0 base with the tri-ax handle and I liked it quite a bit. Once I started going to teh track more, i swapped back to the pro5.0 handle to get on top of the shifter better.
