2001 Stock Stereo Question

I'm still contemplating about which aftermarket receiver I want to get, but first wanted some clarification-

I thought the Mach 460 was pretty standard but I believe that my car is so base/stock that is it something else. Does anyone know about this system's specs by these pics? I figure I should know about the speakers/amps before I purchase a receiver and if I decide to upgrade the other components, I'd do it all at once...

The Mach 460 was in gt and cobra models, the v6 is a standard system without extra amps etc. you can replace the head unit and it will push the stock speakers with its built in amp and be ok, but replacing the speakers at the same time will net you a much better sound overall, even on the new head units built in amp (assuming you get one that is of that design, otherwise you will need a seperate amp to push your speakers)

Thanks for the info. How can I find out if the new receiver would be compatible? Where is the amplifier anyway? Is it worth upgrading the amp too? Perhaps I could find a stock Mach 460 from someone who is upgrading? The 460 has a total of 8 speakers, no?

6, components up front and a rear box under the deck. Honestly it's not worth goin through the hassle of putting in a Mach system when you can get a decent head unit and speakers and have better sound instantly than the Mach.

A good reference site is crutchfield.com you can find units that will fit, all the wiring harness and mounting kits easily.

Thanks, I found someone locally parting out a GT and was offering the Mach upper door tweeters pretty cheap- you think I could add those to my system? Would probably increase sound quality plus I think they look classy.

Idk how it would wire in. The Mach System had an amp under the dash for the front units. You could splice them into existing speakers but without a cross over or high pass filter on them they wouldn't sound good if a full range signal is being pushed to then.

Will do. Once I can find a head unit I'm content with! So many choices...

Don't waist your money with a 460 Mach system, just get an alpine head unit and an infinity speakers and an small amp and a 10 or 12 inch sealed box subwoofer that will be 1000 times better than 460 Mach system
