I have a dual 12' sub box ( very heavy) for the trunk, and I want to put it in the '05 stang, but I am not sure if it will fit. I don't really want to leave it in the old car when I sell it , cause I did that last time, and had to buy all new stuff.
This is Kenwood, and I love it and the amp, it ROCKS...I am not getting the upgraded stereo in the mustang cause I thought I could use this.
Any advise?
Thanks

hmmm...good question. Depends on the height of the box, and the orientation of the subs I'd guess. You might want to go look on the timeline for a pic of the Shaker 1000's box...then you can see how tall 8's (or are they 10's? I can't remember) are in there, and gauge how well your box will fit.

LOL and if you have trouble, I'm going to be selling my Shaker 500 (speakers and all)...

here is an idea,

Because it seems as if Mustangs will be hitting the lots soon, when one is in your local showroom, go and measure the trunk. If your box can be modified to fit, than take it out of your car, otherwise, sell it with your car.

Thats a great idea. The sibs are allready "broken in" so to speak, and I love the sound, so if I can get a new box, I think that would work......GENIUS MAN........PURE GENIUS..........

Will the 12's fit? I was trying to save the money since I already have a good system now!

Not necessarily true. It is not as simple as saying "OK, this box doesn't fit but that one over there will fit. I'll toss my speakers in it instead". The cuft displacement has to match the speakers.

PonyGirl, you need to give us more specs on your box, what is the height, width, length. Is it a rectangle shape or a wedge. How do you want it to fit in the trunk (up against the back seat or just plop it in the middle).

When it comes to subs and wanting them to sound good all of this is very important. Personally I would find out the specs of your subs (ie exactly what cu ft displacement you need) and build, or have someone build one, that fits properly with the car.

Agreed adrenalin! It is a rectangle box and it fits up against the back seats facing the rear of the car. I can get specifics tonight, cause it is pretty big ( in my opinion)...............

Ponygirl. Take your system with you. If you have to have a speaker shop custom make you another box to fit them I would do that. They know all of the exact measurements to make the box to make the speakers sound right. Man I sure wish ford could get the bose systems.

I've been into stereo design and competitions for over 15 years. Looking at the layout of the mustang you may want a shop to build (only if your box does not fit) a wedge design that fits snug up to the back of the seats. Definately have your subs facing the trunk for better base response. Personally I will be adding 2 - 12" Kickers in this configuration. My days of having the loudest car have past but I still like getting a massage while driving, and no, one of those seat massagers won't do it for me.

How did you get 12's to fit? I bought 12's for mine but the box wouldn't fit, so I traded them in for 10's instead

I'm guessing you just walked into a store and saw 2 12" subs already sitting in a box and said "I'll take that one". Not all boxes are the same size. Some subs, lower end, require larger volume resulting in a bigger box. If you get a custom box built anything is possible. I had 6 - JL 15w6 (15" subs) in my 1995 Cavalier Z24. I had to build the box piece by piece inside the car. I also put 2 of those subs in my 97 GT in a box that was removable.
