Arrow Whats the BEST way to go for a Subwoofer that takes not room? MTX preform?

Thinking of adding a sub to the trunk. would like something that takes close
to no room. I saw MTX makes a preform box and seems to look the best out
of all the pre made boxs. Or maybe have a custom box made that is very thin
up at the back seat?

What do you guys think?

Anyone with Photos please post so we can all see whats the best road to take here :-)

Thanks.

I highly recommend these old-school subs. They only need .66 cu foot of airspace.

They're hard to get, but are the best sounding sub that works in a very small sealed enclosure. I ran a 12 in a truck box that sounded fantastic and I wouldn't crank it because it quickly got loud enough to overpower the other factory speakers in the car. One 10" sub w/ a good quality amp would pobably do the trick for you and take up minimal room... then you'd have a spare sub 'just in case'.

Ive seen these, http://www.stage3motorsports.com/pro...Amplifier.html
and these,

I didn't know the old kicker solos were worth so much. I traded one off in my last car and I have one mounted in a nice little truck box collecting dust in my garage.

yea solo barics are pretty kickass subs...i used to have 2 12' l5's in '99 stang. I was thinking about putting one 10' L7 in my new one since im out of banging stage but I could still crank it up a little in those times that I want to re visit the old days. lol

I was looking on ebay for custom boxes but all they have is the MTX. But the JBL Iowa posted looks nice....ima look more into that one.

These are good drivers, and can still be purchased new from the OEM manufaturer of them, Credence Loudspeakers. Of course, these don't say Kicker on them.

The square Kicker Solo's are a terrible facsimile of the originals. They do get loud as hell, though.

If any of you guys need one of the Scoshe enclosures, holler. I have mine sitting idle and taking up valuable space.

Ahh, good info on the Credence speakers. I wish I would've known about those earlier.

You're 100% right about the square speaker suckage. I put one of the L7 12's in my Mustang and was disappointed after knowing what the old ones sounded like.

I think I'm going to go with 2 of the new JL W3V3 8" and do a set up right behind
the back seat with a Amp rack on the box. I think if the plan comes out right it should
only come off the back seat about 9"

The only problem I have with that is a theif then has "one-stop shopping" in that they could get the box/amps all in one maneuver. If that doesn't concern you, it's a fantastic idea. Though, I would also check into the SoundSplinter 8's as a serious alternative to the JL's. There's nothing wrong with the JL's at all, I just think you could beat the performance for much less money.

Hey socal - just another idea - I don't keep a spare in my car - If you'd rather carry a can of fix-a-flat than a spare, you can sink a single 12 in the spare well that will give better sound than the two 8's. (never been a fan of the sound of 8's in cars) Then you'll be giving up no trunk space.

But I'm not sure if being in the spare well would be a positive or a negative for sound quality.

THe JL box seems to take up alot of room. I have seem a MTX box
and one other box from http://www.bassforms.com/ that looks like a
nice fiber glass box that will not take any room.

if you dont mind doing some building a small box look at the PIONEER UD-SW10B THIN MOUNT SUBWOOFER ENCLOSURE i think it requires 1/2 foot of air space is all you need
