Upgraded to Shaker 500 hu.I need more base!
Hi all:
So, I switched out my base hu for a 2007 Shaker 500 hu. I love it and so far it works really well. Now for my dilemma. NEED MORE BASE!! I guess the base unit is less powerful and therefore could deliver some good base. This unit has more watts ,I guess, but definitely doesn't give me any base. I guess its designed for use with amps and subs.
So......... what is the best way to add base without breaking the budget? Are the subs in the doors of a true Shaker system real subs or are they just mid base? Should I look for Shaker subs or can I use any subs for the doors? Subs for the doors will require cutting a hole in the door panels like the true shaker system. Should I just try to find GT door panels? Or will a sub in the trunk be the way to go?
Amps! The two factory amps that power the subs are up front on the firewall. They must be really small. Are they two single channel amps or if not what are they? Wil I be able to hook up any small amps to the factory hu or do I need the ford factory amps?
So many questions and so much confusion.
Thanks for your help.
Budget is the key. Not enough cash to do everything I want.

Oh, BTW
Information that I discovered when I switched out the base hu from my 05 to a Shaker 500 from an 07.........................
the plug in ( female end ) in the unit is different from 05 to 07 for the antenna. My local install shop helped me by selling me an adapter from a Chrysler. It plugs onto the stock antenna wire and into the hu inlet. Sorry, but I've been looking and can't find the package it came in for the part number. Its not much help without the part no. but this can be used as a heads up.

the amps for the shaker 500 system are in each of the doors. It would be a lot of work to replicate the factory subs in the doors. I would go with one of the custom sub enclosures for the trunk that are available on ebay.
