stock gt shifter boot- actual leather or not?

My shifter boot is very rugged an rough. The tabs holding it in have broke so now when I shift, the boot moves up and down depending what gear I'm in. Very annoying an the actual plastic around the perimeter of it pops out. I don't feel like spending money on a new. But if it's leather, I can try a leather softener.

if you can find the trim ring (like off a trashed boot that has good tabs or a new one) we can make a nice leather boot but you need the trim ring. does it have the silver plastic bezel around it?
