That is the install guide to install the Sync Kit. After it is installed then you need to have the ford dealer install the Sync unit programming. The programming changes the asbuilt data on the vehicles ECM. This is the download programming by ford. I am not sure if it actually changes the ACM configuration.
Lockpick makes a unit to bypass the lockout of navigation radios.

I have not been able find out what programming tool techs use to change the settings on the ACM.

I have an VCM/IDS and there is ACM programming in it. You need to go to the module programming and pick ACM, its that easy. I took a brand new unprogrammed Nav and reprogrammed it as a Taurus X and its works just fine.

I know it was for the SYNC but it talks about programing the ACM so I thought it might be the same thing.

Anyway, so in order to follow those steps you need to lockpick the nav unit first?
Sorry, I dont understand your reply.

randyre,
The ids vcm I have will not allow me to program the ACM head unit. I can flash the ACM codes to the ECM. But, not able to change settings on the nav radio itself.
The radio has 3 pages of configuration settings that either have to be enabled or disabled. With your IDS/VCM did you look for changes to the head unit.

LOckpick is a company that makes a module that unlocks the nav unit when you are moving. You can make and enter information while moving. I had installed one on my Chrysler Town and Country. The lockpick works great, I removed it when I traded the van.

BTW I just got an e-mail from Brad, changing the Ford logo to running pony is not possible. The radio only has three settings Ford,Lincoln and Mercury.

The ECM is the Engine Control Module, and has nothing to do with audio controls, or the radio. The ACM "IS" the radio head unit itself. The Ford IDS will program this.

You go into module programming, pick ACM, and then type in the 727 codes you get from the as built data, thats is what configures your three pages of data, you can't pick and choose what to enable or disable, thats why having the VIN for a car with the options you need is important.

Mine was a blank Nav unit, factory fresh and would only come on, but no lights, no Sirius, etc. Once I used the As Built Data from an 2008 with Navigation and Sirius it worked great, I then used it to reprogram it for a Tarus X so I could get the steering wheel controls and sync, but may revert back to a 09 or 10 Stang if we can find one that works.

I'm still installing my '12 Steering wheel and Sync module, but I know for sure that the IDS will program the ACM just fine.

My IDS is ver 78.xx I believe.

Yeah, our Pioneers don't get that luxury. The newer '11+ nav units can be hacked and changed. Not sure about the GT500 prior to '11, I think they had the GT500 logo, so not sure if that was a special build or what?

Shops that do the head program can choose and pick what to enable and disable. They can change the logo to ford,Lincoln and Mercury. They can also turn sw settings to the steering wheel audio control buttons etc. My IDS/VCM #66.8 and will not do that. Maybe I need to upgrade to a newer version.

After I hooked all my correct pairs, I was happy to see that all the buttons were working correctly.
Hope you receive your switch soon, so that you can be happy your time and effort worked out. We can thank (AK) for all the assistance.
I guess tomorrow Brad will let me know what the results on my radio will be.

So I got my switch today, plugged it in and no joy.
I did a diagnostic and I keep getting B11117 Wheel button stuck.
So I ripped everything out and Im going to try again from scratch.

I still dont understand how to figure out + and - via resistance. I tried the wires both ways. Same deal. Oh and the tele button and synce doesnt work.

Something is up with my unit now. Some of the buttons dont work on the unit itself. I have to wait a long time, then they start working like normal. Its very weird.

Since your unit is back can you post your screen shots of the settings. I want to see if SWC is suppose to be 6 or 5. Maybe thats whats causing this error as well.

VGM it sounds like you have a power wire engaged constantly. Wheel button stuck is usually something that is broken or you have a wire misplaced. I believe the later. Double check your red wires and the black. Make sure your grounds are in the correct places. Ground the horn plate also.

Other than that, it is all your wire placement. Remember, 16 and 17 are the reversed terminals, with 16 being negative, instead of positive. 17 is the positive for the audio controls.

I've done it and made it work. Data has done it, Randy too, I believe. Just go back and reread each section and wire accordingly. Good luck.

Data---told you. lol

What's the right part number for the steering wheel switch / where would be the cheapest place to get it?

Are you tracking your wires by the colors, or did you number them. I know I sat at the work bench scratching my head. On my steering wheel harness I used Blue#16 neg.,Yellow #17 pos, Purple#18 pos and Green#19 neg.
Becarefull when you install the harness that the airbag does not make contact with the harness. The airbag tabs will cut into your harness.

Right side switches are:

SW6713 is the standard, without audio controls

SW6714 used for Shaker 500 (has both phone and ok buttons on the lower left button).

SW6716 for the navigation head only (only has the phone, only, on the same button as above)

These are the only switches we use for the audio controls in our cars.

There is a left side switch, SW6712, (to replace the switch, on those who bought a Boss steering wheels with trac pac options and "D" pad). The "D" pad is SW 6911. Just thought I'd put all the part numbers out there, so people can order whatever switch they need.

Amazon, RockAuto, etc have this switch for about 42-43 bucks. Hope that helps.

The part number SW-6716 (AR3Z-9C888-FA). You can purchase it on Ebay.

Thanks for the help guys.

The colors you chose are exactly like mine.
on the steering wheel harness mine is 1 empty, 2 yellow, 3 blue, 4 green, 5 purple, 6 empty. So I put 18 green and 19 purple. 17 Yellow and 16 blue.

Well I redid the whole wire and Im going to try tomorrow. Brad says it doesnt work cause it needs programing.

Do you have your Nav unit AL?
I keep asking but could you please post those screen shots? thanks

My radio should arrive at 4D-Tech this morning, depending on what the problem is with the microphone, I hope for a quick return.
The reason I said to becareful with installation of the airbag are the extension that the hold down screws go into. Make sure those areas are clear of thos tabs.
#18 was green and #19 Purple on my steering wheel harness. That would be the correct placement of positive and negative connection to the J#1.
On your diagnostic photos it shows your sw turned on to 6 I would think that it would work.
