6x8 is a Ford size and 5x7 is a GM size. They both will work.

I have the Infinity's (see sig). Infinity makes them so they fit both 5x7 (GM) or 6X8 (Ford) applications.

How do they compare against the stock speakers, does it make much of a difference? do you have them on the front and the back? did they come with tweeters? You have the exact ones i'm planning on getting!

It's like lifting a blanket off the stereo, they are very bright compared to the stock speakers (even without using the 3db treble boost in the tweeters) It takes some getting used to if you are used to mushy speakers. The pivoting tweeters are also a must to dial in the sound.

They do not milk much more power-wise. The Kappa 682.7 CF's are 2 ohm speakers rated 100 watts RMS, the stockers are 4-ohm/25 watts (peak???). I don't think the stock stereo really liked seeing the 2-ohm load, and it just didn't have the juice to really power them. It would sound thin at low volume and only sounded good at full blast, which still wasn't very loud.

So I eventually upgraded everything else (head unit and amp) to give the speakers what they wanted/deserved.

If I did it all over again, I may have just gotten the Infinity Reference 6x8's instead, which are 4-ohm and a lower RMS, but still have a pivoting tweeter. They might have sounded better or have been more compatible overall with the stock head unit.

What deck do you have that is pumping 80watts RMS ?
But yea 80 watts rms deck pushing 100w rms speakers would work.

I have the JVC KW-AVX706. Here's a link with some info on it. http://www.cardomain.com/item/JVCKWAVX706
Is 80W RMS bad??? it says 20 X 4 RMS so i figure you say 80W. I can take an engine apart but i know nothing when it comes to speakers lol...thanks for all the help!

Maybe that deck is 80 watts total???? That is, 20 watts x 4 channels? (never mind, you beat me to it...)

The Kappa's are a bit over-rated for that deck, wattage wise. You could try the Kappa's with the deck and see if you like it. But if you're a tone dweeb like me, you'll probably end up wondering if they would sound even better with the amount of juice they are capable of handling.

If 20W x 4 is enough volume for you, and you don't ever plan on getting an amp, then I think you would probably do just fine with the less expensive Reference series instead. I think Enfynet has those in his 'stang...maybe he could pipe in on his experience.

I know but i blew over a grand on the deck + installation. Decks that can actually pump out 100W cost way too much

OK I can believe 20wx4 = 80w I thought you meant 80 x 4 and I was like D A M N Never heard of one doing that.
20 watts is better than the stock unit, but probably need more to truly get what you are after with the speakers you listed.
Did you look at my sig? I will be pushing 100w to each speaker from my amp.
I am a newbie at this myself, I definitely don't know all the in/outs of a system yet. I have installed numerous HU's but have NEVER done amps, subs etc like this time.

well when i installed my deck they told me they were gona have to install an amp but i don't even know what type of amp they installed, im hoping it will be able to push 100W. I'm going to go back to the same place that installed my deck to install my speakers and ask them what type of amp i have. If it's crap i'm gona have to buy a new amp

OK wait a minute I think you have a misunderstanding of how this works (or maybe it is me) hopefully someone will clarify this for us.
If a head unit pumps 20w x 4 for a total of 80w, that does not mean you are getting 80 to EACH speaker only 20w and the RMS listed on the speaker is for EACH speaker. So the Infinity's can take 100w RMS each, but you would only be pumping 20w RMS to each with the head unit you listed.

Ditto, my amp install that I did last month was my first. Took me maybe two weekends and then another three weeks dialing in all the settings on the amp. I also did quite a bit of work on the shaker door sub enclosures - the full bit with fiberglass and sound deadening. Takes a lot of time and trial and error. My wife thinks I'm crazy spending my evenings sitting in a hot car in the garage listening to the stereo...sure the neighbors don't like it either.

Yep, exactly. That's why I say the Kappa's are a bit over-spec'd for your setup, Farsyte. Unless...you do have an amp in your system. That's why I did my amp install myself. I've usually done decks myself, but for once figured I would pay the "premium" to have a shop do my deck install. I'm older and had better things to do, I figured. Well, they totally loused it up and I ended up tearing it all back out again to do it right. No way was I going to have them do the amp!
