Shaker Stereo installed in Garage?
I'm remodeling my garage and was looking for a compact stereo when I noticed that you could buy take-out Shaker 500 Mustang stereo units on ebay. I know that I'd need a 12V AC/DC converter to provide power, but is this really a viable option for putting tunes into my new garage? It seems most home stereos I look at rely on a ipod for mp3 playback, or are just too large. I really hadn't wanted to buy an ipod. I just thought an actual built in car stereo would fit my Mustang themed garage rather well. Any details yall could provide on how to make this work, or reasons why it won't, would be much appreciated. Thanks!

for the price you are going to pay for the head unit, speakers, and subs plus making enclosures for all of them, i would just look into a stereo with a MP3 CD changer or AUX input and just make some shelves.

Ok, I'll answer my self in case anyone else has had the same idea. Red Dragon was correct in that a car stereo is not the best way to add sounds to my garage. It's not meant to sound good in a large space, and buying all the components will add up. Further research and consulting with those who know more than I do has revealed that the best, least expensive option with the best sound quality will probably be one of these new compact all-in-one home theater systems. I would never have thought of that on my own, but the whole thing can be purchased for under $200, is well suited for a large room, has tons of power, and includes speakers, a built in DVD/CD player, and a tuner (on some models). I have no intention of adding a TV to watch movies, but this will sound better than a boom box or a compact stereo and take up much less shelf space. I'd spend a bit more on one for my living room, but this should do nicely in a garage.
