I don't know much about car stereos, but it seems to me that the essential difference between the shaker 500 and 1000 are the additional sub-whoofers in the trunk. Does the shaker 1000 put out an additional 500 watts of bass alone. What about treble and midrange? In other words, does the shaker 1000 put 500 watts more volume (however it is calculated) accross the entire spectrum, or only more bass?

I am not sure I have explained the questions very well, but maybe someone could help me.

Thank You,

heres how it goes..........i wouldnt mind the shaker 1000 but i dont need ground thumping base soo i prefer the shaker 500. its the same audiophile system just the 1000 has the woofers in the trunk and i also think it has an amp im not sure if the 500 does. but pretty much depends on what taste in music u have. if u like hip/hop, rap, r&b then the 1000 is for u. for rockers like me i prefer the 500 because rock doesnt need to thump thump thump. of course the 1000 is the better system because its got more watts. but its ur pref

If you want to spend an extra $1200 to get a radio that has a pounding bass, so your stang sounds like a ghetto cruiser, then get the Shaker 1000.

The louder the music gets, the less it sounds like music. Heck, when does the average person even take the stock 80 watt system to FULL volume? Exactly. Get the Shaker 500 just for the upgraded speakers and then get a DVD Flip-Up Screen or something.

Another option is to get the regular stereo that comes with deluxe GT and go with a quality aftermarket system. I think thats what route I'll take. I don't want to add over a grand to the financed amount for a stereo.

Sometimes guys, wattage doesn't just mean thump. Often you get a more refined sound at lower volumes as well.

However, I think the Shaker 1000 is a rip off. You can get high quality aftermarket for way less than that.

I know some people don't want to fuss with that stuff, and more power to the people who have, and will, order the Shaker 1000. But as for me (and only voicing my opinion here), I'd rather spend my extra $1200 elsewhere.

I agree... the 1000 is a good factory setup, and is less of a hassle to Joe Average, but aftermarket is the way to go to get the most boom for your buck.

Who knows? You might even find somewhere to stick your aftermarket subs so that they don't take up 25% of the trunk like the Shaker 1000.

Sounds exactly like the low-lifes driving down my street!

Except they have it in a crappy 80's Honda.

Thanks for all the imput. I can assure you, however, that I am not some hapless teenager with no self esteem who loves the attention getting thumping bass noise of rip or rap or beebop or hiphop, or whatever its called (no disrespect to devotees of such things). But one thought: John Denver to the rescue! (Whether anyone wants to admit it or not, there was a brief moment, a long ime ago, when he was considered to be "cool" by the masses.)

I have the Mach 460 stereo in my 99GT. I find that it can distort at relatively modest levels of volume. This is why I was wondering whether the difference between the Shaker 500 and 1000 systems is more than just additional bass.

If there actually better quality across the frequency spectrum? The following statement begins to answer my question:

Sometimes guys, wattage doesn't just mean thump. Often you get a more refined sound at lower volumes as well.
Is this indeed the case with the shaker 1000? A more detailed explanation would be welcomed.

I certainly hope that is the case

...As for the stereotypical remarks made adove... Some of us like to blast Limp Biskit as well as Linkin' Park.
WHAT?!? If you have ever driven a Jeep w/ a soft top @ any speed... you will know why the added volume is required.
For the Ghetto Crusier note... wouldn't DVD flip-up screen be included in that? should only match the TV screens in both headrest...

Some of us like listening to comtemporary jazz and hearing all the nuances that only a megawatt system can provide.

Of course in my first part I am only speaking tounge-in-cheek. My point is that those of us with different tastes in music also like more volume with better quality. Besides, there is nothing better than pulling up to someone at a light and letting "Rocky Mountain High" fill the intersection.

Hey guys, the true difference in loud quality sound can only be heard when playing a quality sound track of a CD. Radio varies by signal output and reception. I'm sure most all of you know that treble, midrange and bass must be set to the highest capable clear output, this is not always the highest level on the ****.

The MACH 460 is fine most of the time and I have at many times had the volume at max and the radio song is clear. The BOSE in my Envoy is by far at its best with a quality CD. I would expect the Shaker 1000 to be as good with the heavy bass even better quality.

I like to hear the complete range of the song at it's clearest high volume, not looking for heavy bass. In either one there are Radio Stations Signals and subquality CD's just do not cut it.

I'm happy to have the Shaker the 500 in the GT because, I also want to hear the exhaust.

Keep in mind that good sound is as much a function of the transducers as it is the amp. Lousy speakers cannot be rescued by a big amplifier.

Also, since the decibel scale is logarithmic, doubling amplifer wattage only gains you about a 10-15% increase in volume or sound pressuire level.

Lastly, what are the amplifer ratings within a specified range, say 500 or 1000 watts @ 40hZ-20kHz +3,-1.5dB? If THD within that range is high, you still won't get good sound.

Most amps are pretty decent now, though. Listen and buy what you like!

I'm going aftermarket myself. I can get a very good sounding system put together for about $800.

.. Just to make this clear, it's so I can listen to:
-Pink Floyd
-Eminem
-Tool
-Aerosmith
-Bone
-Audioslave
-Browns games when I can't watch them on TV
-etc
... Stereotype me

I Agree Completly, well almost. The Subs in the Trunk for the Shaker 1000 Really take up 1/3 of the Trunk. I will be getting the Shaker 500 and having my own Box made so it won't take up so much useable space.
