Shaker 500 upgrade to 1000

I found what I thought was a pretty good deal on ebay, the Shaker 1000 rear subs and amps new for under $200. My question is what would it take to hook up the subs/amps to my existing 2006 Mustang GT Shaker 500 system? Is there already wiring run back there, or would I need to run new wire? If I need to run new wire, is there an easy way to hook into the rear of the head unit? Thanks for your help guys, much appreciated!!

You'll have to completely wire the thing. Ford stopped putting the harnesses in if you didn't order the 1000 VERY early in 2006. Mine has PART of the harness.

500 to 1000

I ordered mine in early July 2005, it arrived in Sept. '05. I'll have to look to see if the harness is there. If the harness is there, is it a matter of plug and play, or do you think there is more to it? I know the stock 1000's have a 'shaker control' in the menu of the head unit. I'm guessing I would not be able to do the same?

Oh, if you have an '06, the entire harness isn't there. I think we could eventually ge it rigged in there, but I have a feeling that the wiring could become a nightmare. I, OTOH, do have a 1000 system (box/subs, probably not the amps) on its way to me late this week or early next week. If you want to wait, I'll look to see what is involved- unless yo don't wanna miss out on the e-bay one. I just wanted the box, but the new ED and TCSounds subs should drop in directly

Yeah, I'm already bidding on the subs/amps now. I did check the trunk and it looks like there is a harness there, but I'm not sure exactly what or how much of it there is. It is small, and plugged into a wierd little round thing that is not connected to anything. The wires come from the same bundle that goes to the rear deck speakers, and the interior trunk lights. The connection sure looks like a speaker connection, snap in harness. I'm just not sure that it actually has any connection to the head unit, and how I'm going to remotely turn the sub on/off. Should be interesting!!

I think the pre-amp level signal wires are in my trunk, but the power harnesses are non-existent. You definitely cannot use wire color as any indicator because Ford changed wires at every connector/junction.

At least the preamp signal wires are there, a power wire won't be as bad to run as both signal and power wires. I've heard getting to the rear of the head unit is a real pain in the rear.

No, running wires in this car is VERY easy. I have 8-channels of RCA's, 2x1/0 power, and 6x16ag runs of speaker wire, all well hidden.

Edit: I forgot the DIN cable and RCA cable for my Omnifi unit also

I'd like to know what you do. I have the same question and see the harness in my late MY06 GT. I'd like to use those wires for rca outputs to my amp... do they connect to the radio?

I'm sure hoping they do connect to the radio, I have no way to test them as of right now. I guess I'll be testing them as soon as I get the speakers/amps! We'll have ourselves a little experiment!! I'll keep you guys posted.
