I upgraded my S500 to a full alphasonik setup, for about the same price as S1000. 3-way components in the front, 2-way components in the rear, a 5-channel amp and a 10" sub in the trunk.

To me, it was well worth it. I would definately not be happy with the S1000. It is nicer than some stock upgrades out there, but that doesn't justify the price.

I have the Shaker 500 in my '06. Didn't want to spend the extra $1k+ on the Shaker 1000. I'm pretty disappointed in the bass levels with the 500. My Explorer OEM Audiophile system (290W w/ sub in rear) sounds better than the Shaker 500.

Yeah, I agree that the S1000 is just too much for too little, especially if the 500 comes with the wiring in place. I definitely think the 500 is worth it for the door enclosures, 6CD/MP3 , etc...spread out over 60 months, anyway With RRRoamer's results, I'm hoping my new woofers will really pound when I hook up the new amp.

Let us know how that goes (and how things are wired up!). I KNOW my JL 8W3V2s can handle a lot more power than the factory amp can feed them...

so far so good, I did the power and ground separately and did the inputs from the factory wiring harnesses. I built my own RCAs and got some noise; the OEM setup has woofer pos., woofer neg., and a separate shield wire, so I'm not sure how it should be hooked up. I also did the speakers with the factory wiring.

When you say "inputs" are you talking about the speaker level inputs, or the line level inputs that feed the stock 8" sub amps?

I used an output converter from Audiocontrol (LC6) model that gives me total control of the entire system. It has adjustable gain controls for up to 6 channels and works great with the shaker system and an aftermarket headunit.Would work great for the stock unit too, but if you are upgrading the speakers etc, this will give you nice adjustability of the system to your liking.I have since adjusted the front 8's and they really pound now..Before, you really didn't notice them much, NOW there is plenty of AIR coming out of the grilles hitting my leg and the bass is clean.
Do you get a popping sound when you power up/down the system? You don't need a voltage regulator if you use the AudioControl LC6? In other threads, they say you need a voltage regulator if you change the head unit to avoid the popping.
