I want to add my subs and amp to my ’06 (Shaker 500) when it arrives, but don’t want to replace the head unit. Has anyone tampered with adding an aftermarket amplifier to the Shaker 500 to add subwoofers in the trunk? I have read a few threads that have said the Shaker 1000 is the exact same radio as the Shaker 500 with the exception of another amplifier and the subwoofer enclosure in the trunk. Is the output for the rear subwoofers (shaker 1000) still present for the 500 (like an unused wiring harness)? I know I could use a line converter on the door speakers, or the rear speakers, but if the output for the 1000 is present with the shaker 500 only unused, I would rather use that for my line converter. Anyone experimented with this?

I had a shop add an my 4 channel amp and 2 8 inch subs in the truck and it worked fine. I don't know how they did it. Have recently changed to a new head unit, however.

My car has the Shaker 1000, so I've not made any changes to mine. However, I thought you may find these links interesting.

Have a look at http://www.soundgate.com. A Soundgate tech told me that the Soundgate LOCB.2 can be used to tap into the existing pre-amp level signal that goes into the amplifiers powering the door subs. The LOCB.2 will give you a 2.5v pre-amp signal and RCA jacks to add an amplifier to the existing system without replacing or losing anything.

I have a system planned using the LOCB.2 (already bought it). I'm gonna add a Rockford Fosgate 6001bd amplifier and probably a DVC 15" subwoofer in an enclosure in the trunk.

Haven't yet done anything with it yet, so I can't confirm 100% that it works.
