Shaker 1000 Door Speakers
The following questions concern the door midrange/tweeter speakers, not subwoofers.
I already know this subject has been beat to death and I apoligize for the new thread. However, I have spent 4 hours reading hundreds of posts and need a few quick answers from those of you who know for sure because they have already replaced their factory speakers - not speculators:
Are the door speakers component speakers, or 2-way (coaxial)?
Are the door speakers 4 ohm?
Will a 5X7/6X8 drop in place with no mounting modifications - is the speaker mounting location flat (heard it wasn't on some other threads)?
Lastly: I remember a post with a PDF attachment of door panel removal instructions. Can't find the post - please help.
Reason for asking these questions - Just installed a pair of Alpine SPR-57LPs in the rear deck and am very pleased. Would like to install in the door as well. Not sure about fitment.
As always thanks in advance for help, advise & suggestions.

check www.crutchfield.com i believe they say 6x8s' will fit.
I believe the stock speakers are 5.1/4s' though.

Kevin I have already looked at Crutchfield and this is their web site information on the 05 Mustang:
"Crutchfield measures each vehicle to determine what components will fit in it. Unfortunately, we have not measured this vehicle, so we are unable to confirm which products fit your vehicle at this time.
If you're willing to measure your own vehicle for a custom installation, or would like to consider universal "add-on" options for upgrading your system, please call a Product Advisor at 1-888-955-6000"
If I am not searching their web site correctly please let me know. Have you replaced your speakers? Is the information you stated about 5.25" speakers accurate?

Yes I was just there and they seemed to have changed it! Last week it stated that the 5.25 and 6x8s' would fit.. I ordered some panasonic 5.25s' and 6x8s two ways and hope to have them this week so hopefully the fit.
Sorry about the mix up. But last week they did have these as fitting, I wonder what happened?
by the way what size are the subs in the door? i dont have them and was thinking of getting a pair.

The mounting surface for the speakers is flat. Replacement 5X7/6X8 speaker will drop right into place. See http://forums.bradbarnett.net/index.php?showtopic=16185 on how to take off the door panel
check for 5 x 7 that fit newer Ford's. These are the speakers that I have on order for mine.

you can angle the tweets up at you to get great sound...killer quality too! Comes with crossovers.
Also, check this site...it does'nt give you all the neat info on everything in their catalog but you sometimes you can save alot of money over what you pay at crutchfield. B)

Charles thanks for the info. Were the factory speakers 2-way or component and how many ohms? Also is there a spacer ring which the speakers mount to rather than directly to the door frame which doesn't appear to be flat? Difficult to tell from the picture having never seen it for myself. Finally found the PDF instructions for door panel removal. Thanks again for your help!

FYI fellas, you're better off keeping them component and replacing with round speaks rather than ovals. The oval design cannot deliver as good a sound as the circular. So a 5x7 is not better than 5x5 - just an fyi.
