Scratched Head Unit
#1
UGH!! Scratched my Shaker 1000 Head Unit while installing the PIE Aux Connector. Any ideas here? So far, all I can think of is:
1) Live with it
2) Buy a new one ($600 !!!)
3) Get a whole diff head unit
Any way to get a faceplate or to smooth this out?
Thanks!

Nick,
I'm in the same boat. I have a small scratch right across the display. Unlike you, I have NO idea how it got there. I've chosen option 1) at this point. I plan on replacing the unit with a built in car computer at somepoint, so I'm not going to loose much sleep over what happens to the shaker until then.
Plastic can be polished. Do some research online about acrylic polishing. I bought a used 240 gallon aquarium that had some MAJOR scratches in one end due to being stored on end in the guys garage for years. I ended up purchasing a 3M acrylic polishing kit and followed the directions to repolish the whole aquarium. When I was done (about 10 hours or so total for this monster!), that aquarium was polished better than any new tank I had ever seen. It positively glowed. I was able to remove all the scratches in the front and all but one scratch from the end. The one I couldn't get was over 1/16" deep at it's deepest and I did NOT want to remove that much material from my tank! You could barely see it when I was done, so I didn't loose any sleep over it.
Good luck!
