S197 horn button emblem...

I know there have been threads about the decaying or disfiguring horn buttons on the GT, due to whatever is wrong with the way they are made. Question is: short of taking the car to the dealer and having them replace the wheel/airbag, etc., as has been noted, are there any companies that have snap-on or adhesive backed replacements or something that will replace it? Mine is not bad - yet, but yes, you can see little bubbles in the pony emblem.

I would suggest not putting anything on it. Just because it would get in the way of the airbag if you were to get in a car accident. I would just go to the dealer if i were you.

Mine looks like crap and the dealer decided to give me a hard time about it and while I was in the process of arguing with them about getting it fixed my warranty expired. Id also like a nice decal or something to cover it up.

Hmmmm. You just gave me an idea.... How does the medalion come out, I know its pricey because the airbag is involved but if we could get the medalion out, custom stuff could be done!!!!!

I wouldnt put anything more on it than a sticker, because it's part of the airbag, and I dont want a piece of metal flying at me in a wreck.

The center piece comes doesn't travel with the airbag, it goes off to one side with one half of the cover. As long as it attaches to one side of the cover adequately, it should be fine. I've suggested elsewhere that someone like SHR make a billet aluminum piece. I'd certainly buy one. I think it would compliment the interior very nicely.

This is probably the best and safest way to do it. Get the Saleen emblem, which is smooth. Then you can get a custom decal overlayed onto the Saleen emblem without worrying about how to smooth out the pony emlem.

Cheers

If you buy the airbag for the Ford GT it will have a correct "GT" emblem on it. However I know you are all looking for something you can just insert in place of the existing emblem.

I think Ford screwed up making the emblems the way they did. Every used Mustang I have seen has a disfigured or worn emblem. If they had made the the traditional way using a clear plastic with the emblem embossed and colored from behind they would stay good looking for a long time.

I just let mine fade out. Funny thing is its almost completely faded, and now looks to be an even brushed finish as opposed to chrome. A couple more months and I am pretty sure you won't even be able to tell it came that way. Not worth a fight at the dealer IMHO.

Pretty much what mine did. I just let it go and now it kinda looks all satin like the rest of my interior. Doesnt bother me as much now.
