umm... what is this? I was looking at making a system on Crutchfield.com, and under the special instructions for 2005 mustang it states that the factory subwoofers will not work if the radio is replaced. Anyone know what is up with that? I was looking at getting an alpine deck with sirius satellite radio, and a future 6 disc changer, but if that is the case, I'll just stick with a portable unit. I'm more then happy with the shaker 500 and don't need any more speaker.

I can tell you that the speakers in the door which I believe are the subs are a completely new design by Visteon corp. Ford recieved an award for the design. It was featured a couple of weeks ago in plastics news weekly publication. The article went on to say that the new design took 18 lbs off the weight of the car and produce better sound quality then previously. Not sure how this would be related, but it is possible. Here is a link to Visteon's site talking about the design and award.

There have been a few posts on this site that the speakers do work with some systems; people who have replaced their head units and kept the speakers that came with the shaker 500.

I spoke with an installer, to change my head unit and they looked up specs and agreed ( I am awaiting receipt of my new head unit).

Interesting article. It states that the door woofers have a sealed 12 litre enclosure inside the door. Nice...

Now all it needs is a good amp and some JL's B)

Unfortunately in all the inifinite wisdom Ford & Delphi decided to give us customizable gauges abut a plain spinach green headunit. Hopefully I can get the Kenwood unit I want if I can't swap due to incompatabilities I won't be happy

Another rant(s)... The enclosures for the sub's in the door are straight fugly and the player doesn't accept WMA's (so much for versatility). Fortunately the Shaker system is the only thing I can say I don't like on the car and I'll probably just have the whole thing torn out and replace it with top-notch Infiniti speakers and a sweet Kenwood deck w/Sirius!

I've experinced problems with the in-dash units before. Namely it randomly firing CD's out of the cartridge into my car. I'm good with a trunk mounted disk changer that can hold 10+ with a mag I can switch out.

take a look on pricegrabber. the setup I'm getting is all Clarion, DXZ845MC deck, SIRCL1 sirius tuner and DC2625 6 Disc changer, add on a antennae and less then 500 dollars.

Yes, I am no longer thinking Alpine deck, found a clarion I liked a lot better B)
