Radio experts - a little help here
I am still toying with the idea of adding a power antenna to my GT. Have the Shaker 500 and located a couple antennas that should fit. The problem is that there is no antenna control wire coming out of the Shaker. I don't have a lot of experience with this stuff.
Guess I could find the right wire to splice in to that will power the antenna up when the Shaker is turned on. But will it then retract when the Shaker is turned off? That doesn't sound right, is that how they work? If so, what wire do I want and how do I get to it?
The only other idea is an independent switch that would operate the antenna when pressed. I don't want to be doing that all the time. :notnice:
Just a mental exercise for now, there should be a way.

The best way I can see would be to find the switched with ignition wire for the radio. That's where I wired my auto-dimming compass mirror in. I found the grey/yellow wire in the fuse box connector and tapped in there. The mirror turns on when I turn on the key, then stays on when I turn the key off until I open the door or the accessory delay turns off. Wire the antenna in that way so that you can still sit in the car and listen to the radio with the accessory delay. You'll probably need the Ford wiring diagrams to help you find that wire.
