Question about Radio/power ports
#1
Two questions...
On my '06 Mustang, The radio stays on after I turn off the ignition. It only goes off when I open the driver's door. Is this how they all are? Is there a way to make the radio go off when the key is turned off, like in other cars?
My real, pressing question, though, is this: I have my cellphone charger plugged into a power port. I noticed that it remains powered even after I've turned off the ignition and exited the vehicle. Will this drain my battery? Is there a way to change this behavior?

The radio is working the way it should, same with your power point. The radio stays powered on for 10 minutes after you have turned off the key. You either power it off manually or open a door to turn it off before the 10 minutes has expired. As for the power point, it has constant power. You would have to disconnect the constant power and connect it to an accessory power line instead. However, not sure that is recommended since the power point is specifically used for just that, power up accessories such as chargers.

If there is nothing attached to the charger I don't see it draining the power. Then again, if the charger has an LED light on it, well, it is possible that it could drain the battery.
I've seen posts where people have stored their cars for 3-4 weeks and ended up with a dead battery. Just remember, that even though you have walked away from the car there are things still being powered by the battery, such as the radio. It has to hold the presets and the only way it does this is with constant power.

I saw a post somewhere here (I can't seem to find it) where someone said that their headlights turned off automatically after 10-20 minutes. Apparently it also applied to interior things and perhaps the powerport.
I could be wrong, but I'll try and remember to leave on my radar detector and look through and see if it's off before unlocking my car later.
Naturally this doesn't apply to the alarm, radio presets, computer memory, etc. I did store my car for about 28 days with no problem, but maybe I was lucky.

As John said, the radio staying on is normal. It's part of the "accessory delay" feature, and cannot be disabled (well, I'm sure it's POSSIBLE to disable it somehow, but you know what I mean). From the owner's manual:
ACCESSORY DELAY
With accessory delay, the window switches and radio may be used for up
to ten minutes after the ignition switch is turned to the OFF position or
until any door or trunk is opened.
There is no time delay feature on the power outlets. If you leave something plugged into them when the car is off, they'll contine to sap battery power indefinitely. Some cars have power outlets that only work when the car is turned on, but the 05/06 Mustang does not.

A cell phone charger will not drain your battery. My daughter hates her Hyundai power port because it only works with the igition on. I had to modify one of them for always on. My wife' car has one of each.
Again, the cell phone charge will not drain your battery.

I left my car for 3 weeks with the alarm armed and a cell phone charger plugged in (no cell phone plugged into it). The charger has a bright blue light on it, lit all the time. Car started right up.
As far as the lights, there is a battery saver feature that will turn off the exterior and interior lights before your battery goes dead. I'm not sure if that battery saver system is tied to the power outlets.
