Problem, Seat belt gnawing at your neck
Seat Belt extenders have been around a lot of years and are normally for those a bit big for the standard Seat belt. But in the 05 Mustang it seems the Shoulder strap seems to rub more than a few of us the wrong way! I have found in my particular case an extender moves the belt about 3/4 of an inch away from my neck which is a whole lot better in my case. Seat Belt extenders are available FREE of Charge at any FORD Dealer. The Mustang uses part #4L5Z10611C22AAA. The belt comes with a Statement of Proper and Improper use. It is up to you to determine if your Particular Situation warrants using it!

UPDATE 12/01/07 Here is My Solution to Making the Extensions Both Cooler and Easier to Use! It is a piece o Cake to Buckle up Now! Just Make Sure you Don't Unlatch the Extension in the Middle! USE AT YOUR OWN RISK! Had to Say that! These are Just Common Seat Belt Pad/Sleeves! 05/07/08 I really Love this set up. feels like your strapping into a race car. LOL!

Ha ha Louis, that was too funny! I might get one, because I'm short, well 5'3", so I have to have the seat up close, and for some reason this puts the seatbelt at a place right across my neck. Thanks for posting that Kevin! You da man

I've noticed that if you don't actually place the seat belt behind the seat when you get out of the car that it will hit the side of the seat towards the top and cause a very noticable scratch.

Thanks for this one! The stock belt rides where I'm guaranteed a broken collarbone and maybe a crushed larynx in any sort of heavy impact (not to mention being damned uncomfortable)
Had to have my dealer order a set, but by experiment moving the buckle a few inches to where the extender would leave it, it should place the shoulder belt nicely

This is great! I did a 1200+ mile road trip last weekend and by the time I finished I had a place on the side of my neck that almost felt like a sunburn from the seatbelt rubbing. Going straight to the dealer in the morning for one of these puppies.

I just did a 2800 mi roundtrip from Boston to Kansas City and back. Lemme tell ya' I was pretty tired of that seatbelt trying to slowly saw my head off when I arrived home at 3 am this morning. Fortunately for future use, the box of parts I'd ordered from Kevin to install my Cascotech GT bumper had arrived while I was gone, and he'd kindly tossed in an extender for me (my local dealer is guess-timating about a month to get me one). Tried it out this afternoon, and it is PERFECT... no chafing, belt positioned properly on the shoulder. Thanks Kev!

FYI FORD has FREE Extenders back to the 80's. I just sent out some for an 87,97 and an 05! They are All Different so Do not swap Between Cars unless you know it's the Correct Part # BTW I always enjoy EXTENDING Knowledge!

Hi, new to the Forum and just ordered my 06 GT Coupe but wanted to throw in my 2c for solutions to this problem which I've had with other cars.
1)There is a foam/soft pad which fits over the belt so if it does touch your neck, it won't rub.
Look at www.seatbeltpads.com. (You can get the same thing from Target etc for a few bucks or jcwhitney etc).
2)Also, take a look at this seat belt positioner: http://www.wdrake.com/product_detail.aspx?...ories&ovtac=PPC
3) Seat belt tensioner which allows the belt to be a little loose and allows better access to reach the seltbelt when putting it on.: http://www.jcwhitney.com/autoparts/Product...0003268/c-10101

I tried a Seat belt Pad and it was more comfortable but unless I Remembered to Slide it back or Remove it , The Belt Buckle would end up flopping out between the Door and The Jam as I Removed it! I actually chipped the edge of my Door using a Pad.FYI
