did you make a folder "pictures" on the cd? you have to do this then download your pics into this folder. it should work
Anyway, I think I'm going to ditch the D3 idea and will most likely go for the (yet to be released) Alpine IVA-W205 . This new DVD receiver will have the ability to internally dock their portable GPS handheld, the Blackbird PBD-P200 (also yet to be released). Once docked, all GPS commands will be transferred to the touch screen LCD... how cool is that?
And to top it off, it'll have a rear camera input. I'd like to replace the rear key tumbler in the medallion and install a rear cam in its place. I remember a guy here in TMS did this a while back.

Kristina, I thought you already had a Sticky Pod?

As others mentioned, the D3 does have input for a rear camera...not sure if you knew that or not. But that new system sounds pretty slick too.
Actually I just had a very long term loan of one from a friend. He has it back now...I wanted the triangle one anyways for use on my motorcycle too so this should work out great. It's still so cold here I haven't been able to test it out. WHERE IS SPRING?!

Yes, knew about the rear camera input on the D3, but the coolness of the new Alpine is winning me over.

A few questions, and apologies if they have been covered elsewhere...
Does this unit work with the existing Shaker? if so how does that work? What is the total power out put, the specks show 22X4 watts? Kinda low powered if not in conjuction with the Shaker 500.
What about replacing the rear speakers on a vert? they are in the back side panels not the rear deck, as we do not have a rear deck.
What about up grades for navigation, like when new roads are built?

hey guys i dont know why but im still unable to change the background of my avic-d3.........i created a file in the cd, and i dragged the pictures to the file and then i burned the cd, but when i try to change the background of my navigation it says again that i have to create a folder which i did..........my conclusion is that it is not reading the cd......by the way it is a cd-rw.......any problems with that........

I should have mine installed this weekend - if I finish up my sound deadner installation - and I will be able to say yay or nay from first hand experience.
You can access everything including favorites, gender and artists. This was one of the main reasons I purchased this system.
For all who are know stereos and are monitoring this thread, I could use some serious help.
I'm having the d3 installed on friday. I have a shaker 1000. The installers say they may have to use a 45 dollar wire to make the system work and that it is also very hard to get the D3 to sound good with the 1000 system.
It would be awesome if someone could tell me very quickly if the d3 can be installed to my stock system without losing ANY sound quality, and if it can, what tricks do I need to make it work?
Thanks to everyone for any input!

I'm also not sure what they are talking about when they say it is very hard to get the D3 to sound good with the Shaker 1000 system. I also added new speakers (Infinity 6x8's in the doors and read deck) when I installed mine and it sounds so much better than it did with the stock system. It plays cleaner and hits harder now. I can't see any reason it would sound worse than the factory head unit with your factory speakers either.
Here are two tips that aren't required to retain/improve the sound quality but I did on mine and I would recommend.
- Install voltage regulators on your remote/amp power-on leads. This will eliminate the annoying pop you will hear when the system powers on. This is due to the different voltage between what the D3 sends (12v) and what the Shaker amps are expecting (5v). These cost $1.59 at Radio Shack.
- There is no "illumination/dimmer" lead on the factory harness you will need to splice the "illumination lead from the D3 to another source if you want the D3 to dim when you turn your headlights on. I used the yellow wire on the information center (I think that is what it is called) harness on the left side of the power plug, above the stereo.

I think this is what you need:

RazorX - for someone who is fairly handy themselves, and would have someone helping that is also very handy, esp when it comes to electrical - but neither have installed stereos before - do you think this is something we could do on our own?
