Pictures of Kenwoods new "my color" Head unit

I thought I would share some pics I took of the new Kenwood DPX503, you can customize the colors of the display and buttons individually to make it go along with the mycolor features on our Mustangs.
YOu can even have the colors change with the music if you want (too busy looking to leave that way for me) I put up a video of the on you tube if you search for dpx503.

here is a link to some pictures thought......

I had one in the mid 90's that you could change the color on... it was a Panasonic tape deck... amber, red, or green were the colors. Everything's new again. Still, that's a sweet HU though.

I think back to the 80's (yea I'm old) and I remember having to carry around a small suitcase full of cassette tapes. It's still amazes me that now you can put all of those songs on a micro sc card the size of my pinky fingernail and find just the song you are looking for in less than 10 seconds.

One of the reasons I liked this unit so much though is that it has somewhat of a retro look with the 2 ***** on it. The right one acts like a joystick to navigate the song lists and menus. My only disappointment with it is that you push in the **** to make choices and it is so sensitive that the **** goes left or right just enough that it makes the wrong selection. Other that that I'm very happy with it.........

Was the install difficult? Mainly - does it hook up to the subs of the Shaker 500? How about the illumination - can it be dimmed?

The top of the console comes off and the two sides of the dash inner kick panels snap off. If you ever installed a car stereo id' say its not too bad. The book says it dims with the interior dimmer control but my won't. I may have missed a wire for that but I am happy with the brightness.

It does have the sub input and cross over controls so you can modulate the frequencies to the door subs. It even has interior settings for different types of cars, for compact up to suv to compensate for the acoustics of each type of car. It does sound very good. I am itching to add a seperate amp but I havnt decided if I want to put the money in that or towards 4.10 gears this spring

Did you set it up that way? Did you have the Shaker subs? TIA

I've had the whole dash apart before so that won't be a prob. I'm just wondering if it will be an easy connect to the existing shaker subs. As far as the dimmer, I think some people with Pioneer FHB unit ran it to the headlight switch and it worked. Maybe that'll work with this Kenwood unit also. I had the shaker 500 door subs. you say you have had the dash apart? the whole dash? My A/C evaporator may be leaking and someone told my the dash has to come out to check it. HAve you seen the evaporator when you had the dash apart?
