Old School Rubber Boot For Hurst Shifter?

I've hated the shape of the stock boot since day one and now that I have the classic looking Hurst shifter, I think one of their old style rubber boots would look pretty good with the chrome handle and white ball.
Too bad they don't make one that'll fit our cars.

Opinions?

is there a way you could fabricate it to attach to the center console?

The problem is they don't make one that's the same shape (rectangle) as the Mustang. Notice the one in the pic is square.

Find out the dimensions on that base and get a piece of metal and build a custom ring around it to make it fit over the rectangular mustang shifter?

The problem is the base of the rubber boot is square also. It wouldn't cover all of the rectangular opening.

I'm saying do something like this... The left is how it comes looking directly from the top. The right is with an extended bezel to cover the opening, it could be made as long or wide as needed. The GT is just if you want to cover up a bit of the extra bezel

Oh. OK. Pretty cool idea.
I'll see if I can find out how wide the boot is.

I thought about doing the same thing.
They're not square. I found two models:
3.5" x 4.5" (with the H).
2.25" x 3.5" (no H). Probably too small.

I think the height is more of a problem. I thought about putting the boot down in the recess and getting an aluminum bezel like on the '07 to finish the opening.

Checked 3 different Roush Mustangs. Two were Stage 3's in fact. All of them had the stock shifter boot.

It's on the roush site, the boot might be a stocker modified but it's really short. here's the page the pic comes up when you click on the short throw shifte w/chrome shifter arm and black ball **** in the options section at the bottom. http://www.roushperformance.com/mustang_st3.shtml

Really a tough call IMO, the boots really looked good on cars with no console and a floor mounted shifter. I'm not sure it would look as good on the '05 unless it was recessed.

Maybe Hurst would consider making one?

Good point about the console. The boot would have to be really low profile to not look like a big blob sitting up there.

And no Hurst isn't going to make one. I asked. (but on a side note, the guy I was emailing at Hurst concerning the boot wound up sending me a free "stock style" handle for my Hurst shifter)
