OD Shift button repair...

Hey everyone I wonder if any of you know how to remove the OD shift button from the RH side of the auto shifter if it is possible. During reinstallation of my shifter the twin wires that run up the middle of the lever got pinched in half way up inside the inner part and I wanted to salvage operation of the OD button by repairing the wires from the backof the button. I cannot figure out how the button can be removed without damage. I was hoping the RH lever barrel would just snap off the end but I cannot get it to come off.

At the worst I suppose I will just have to replace the entire shift lever.

Theres a screw on the back of the handle (Facing the hvac) that holds the thing together. Using a small phillips, unscrew it, and gently pull the handle off the rod. the handle can then be pulled in half (gently!) and the OD button will become dislodged

I already know how to remove the entire lever by removing the torx screw on the back of teh shifter and sliding it off the shifter shaft. What I want to do is take the OD button off the RH of the handle. I have tried taking it off and I dont see how to do it without marring or breaking it. There is no screw that holds the shifter together. I assume the black barrels snap into place on both sides of the bright shifter and is really not meant to be removed.
