New Headunit Advice
I have had my 05 Mustang Coupe since July and have had the Shake 500 system in it replaced 3 times already due to issues where some CD's would not play, it would just all of a suddent cut off and reset, etc. I am pretty tired of dealing with it, so I would like to replace the headunit with something that won't give me the same troubles as I have had with the Shaker unit. I like the sound quality, the bass, etc. so I am not looking for something high end or new speakers, just something to replace the Shaker unit. I went to Best Buy today and talked to the sales rep. about getting one installed. He recommended the Alpine CDA-9856 as a good replacement because I could also use a $30.00 cable to interface it with my iPod Video. I was signing all the paper work to get it installed when the guy tells me that my current head unit was not meant to be taken out and that I will have to rewire the entire car which would cost around $300. I guess my first question is whether this is true or not? I would really like to get a replacement, but don't want to spend that much money on it! If it isn't true, should I try and install it myself or just take it back there and tell them I want it installed but don't want my car rewired. Any tips? Sorry for all the questions but this is my first foray into car audio and I don't want to do anything to potentially damage my stang!
I'll bet if you search this site Try maybe 2005-2008 Mustang Issues that you can read up and learn from some others here. That's what I would do. btw I also have an 05 GT and only one disc clicks when playing it " The Gorilla's " have you tried the self test on it ?
You don't have to rewire the entire car. You only need a special adapter in order for the subs in the doors to work. The rear speakers and the speakers in the upper part of the doors are in the standard wiring harness.
This is the wiring harness you will need: http://www.audiooutfitter.com/store/70-5521.html or just search for METRA - 70-5521 You may experience poping in the subwoofer when it first turns on but if you search these message boards you will find several solutions. Screw Best Buy, once again they prove they are clueless.
