I was wondering if there are any car stereos that are double-DIN and plays MP3s and has a Hard Drive that u can upload your songs via a USB cable (preferably touch screen) ?

I don't really care about DVD or Nav system ... all I want is to be able to manage my MP3s and playlist via my laptop and to load them in the car stereo.

I'm getting tired to loading CDs in my Shaker !

i think kenwood has a harddrive system, but i have not heard of other harddrive systems

 

I know the new Pioneer (AVIC-z1 and D3 possibly others) have hard disks built in, don't know about USB, but they can copy off a cd though.

 

If your willing to deal with an older unit that still work well, look into an empeg-car. It also was re-branded and sold as a Rio-Car. It's a 1 DIN unit that holds 2 2.5 inch hard drives and can be removed from the dash to load music on it. It doesn't have an internal amp, so an external one will be needed.

The units haven't been manufactured for a few years now, but a small community still exists around them to keep them going. I'll be installing mine into the Mustang later this spring, as the shaker system with CDs is already driving me nuts.

Kenwood made the Keg system that was hard drive based. I have one in my F-250 and one in our motorhome. They work very well and plug into any of the kenwood head units that support external disc changers. IE most models. I use it with an Excellon in the motorhome and with a PIE aux input adaptor and the Ford head unit in the truck. They no longer sell them new, most manufactures have gone to dvd-r readers to store gigs of mp3s in the head unit cheaply.

 

The Rockford Omnifi is a HDD-based system. It uses a standard IDE laptop drive (2.5"). I modded mine to have an 80GB (had it laying around). The HDD mounts remotely in a box about the size of 3 stacked DVD cases, and it has a standard DIN sized control unit.
