Nav Question and pic request.

I have a question for those who have added the nav unit to their car. Does the GPS receiver sometimes take a while to find the satelites? Mine sometimes can take up to a minute before it connects and I was wondering if this is normal? Also I was wondering if someone with an 07 that has the nav unit or is installing it in an 07 would snap a pic of the bracket for the GPS receiver. I know it goes behind the guage cluster, but I need to get the exact position to see if I have mine mounted as close to correct as possible. Thanks in advance.

yes, newer nav units have better antenas and pick up the signal faster. I do not think you can upgrade the antena alone. I have an older Tom-Tom, sometimes with open skies, it takes 2-3 minutes to get the signal (unacceptable).

I mounted the GPS antenna behind the center vents, just under the center of the dash cover. Usually has the sat locked in before I can get out of the garage. Heck, even finds it while sitting IN the garage.... Much better than the older Delorme GPS we have been using in our motorhome for a few years.

jcthorne: Did you get any pix of your install by any chance? I'm expecting my NAV sometime this week, install to happen next weekend, and I'm leery of pulling the instrument cluster to do so. (don't want a whole host of new rattles and squeaks)

Also... something else that piqued my interest... tell me about your "autolamp controller" ?

I did not pull the instrument cluster, only the center console faceplate and parts to get to it. The antenna for the GPS is installed behind the center dash vents by reaching through the lowered glove box. It was an easy install physically. The programming required a trip to the dealer as our GT500 is not the same as a standard Mustang with regard to the interface between the NAV and the main CPU.
