Well, I thought I'd go ahead and post up some pics of my new system. First, the breakdown:
Sony WX-7700MDX MD/CD Player Head Unit - Imported from Japan through www.melting-pot.com
Sony XT-XM1 XM Radio Tuner - from Circuit City (floor unit)
Sony CDX-757MX 10 disc CD/MP3 Changer - got it off eBay for way below retail (new in box)
JL Audio e6450 6 channel amp - bought from Car Toys
JL Audio TR570CXi speakers (2 pairs) - same (on clearance)
JL Audio 8W0-8 subwoofers (for the doors) - same again
The install wasn't completely drop-in, as you can see by the surround around the head unit (bigger than Double DIN!), but nothing to complain about. The installer had to do some fiberglass work on the enclosures in the doors too...my car came with the Shaker 500, and the magnets on the back of those were the size of silver dollars. The JL magnets were a bit larger, so they had to modify the enclosure. Again, not a big deal for them. I unfortunately didn't get any pics of the install, since I couldn't stay with the car (took forever, for one, and two, their insurance states that customers can't be in the install area), but if you have any questions, call Mike at Car Toys at (720) 981-0300 and ask about the stereo install in the Red 05 Mustang...he'll know what you're talking about, and can direct you to the installer.
The pics here are still a bit incomplete...they ordered some JL grilles for the door subs, but those haven't come in yet.
Oh, and I got the power plug from www.mgwltd.com and the door pins from www.uprproducts.com.
Well, after all that, here are the pics. If you don't like it...that's your opinion I guess. The stereo sounds great though...I've been very pleased with it.

It's very cool...it kinda punches out from about the waist, and comes from the front, which is a great change from all of the cars I've had that have a sound stage in the rear.

I'm not a big fan of Sony products, and I think that HU looks better as a cupholder. Other than that I think you have a nice system setup there. I'm going with a Panasonic or Kenwood HU and Infinity Kappa 5x7s all around, eventually putting a subwoofer setup in the trunk. The whole system should cost me around $700-800 when it's done.
