As said above.....Door and rear speakers are 5x7/6x8.

My sub is a 12" JL. I bought the box and the original sub about 3 years ago. It's a JL wedge box. Kinda big, but it fits in the trunk and still gives me a bit of room to put groceries. You should be able to fit a 12 in a smaller box and have plenty of room. I'm not looking for a whole lot of boom, just enough to make it sound nice and solid.

I'm still waiting on word from infinity about the Kappas. I'll probably hit the sound shop and see what they can do about the doors. I would prefer to have Kappas all around.

Can we get a pick or tell us how you routed the antenna wire back to the front of the car.

 

The antenna is hooked up to the XM Direct unit behind my head unit. I took the wire and routed across the lower part of the dash, down behind the front driver side kick panel, under the plastic trim to the back seats. The wire continues under the plastic panels by the rear seat and up by the seat latch. I took a small piece of velcro and put it on the bottom of the antenna and put it in the middle. You can not see the velcro at all, and the wire is routed so you can not see it or get it snagged on anything.

The panels on this car are easy to work with. There is plenty of room to route wires and cables under the trim. The trim is easy to remove and replace as well. The center console, and dash was easy to remove once I figured out where to start.

I received a response from Infinity concerning the Kappas and the Reference speakers. Per Infinity...."The height that the tweeter protrudes above the mounting surface the speaker mounts on is just under 5/8" and therefore would cause the tweeter to strike the inside surface of the factory grille. The only way to get around this is to modify the factory panel in order to get the speaker to fit properly."

I kinda realised this when I went to my local shop and checked them out again. I'm going back tommorrow and we are going to take the door panels off and see what can be done. The installer can modify the bracket back a bit to get it to fit if it doesnt interfere with the operation of the window. If that doesn't work he suggested some JL's or MB quarts up front and Kappas in the back. They all sound good so who knows what might happen.

FYI - Infinity, JBL, and Harmon Kardon are all relatives of each other.

You guys aren't talking about component speakers, right? Just regular all-in-one deals?

 

Regular all in one 2 way's. The one's with the tweeter sticking out thru the middle. Component 5x7's will work, but you just have to find a place to put the tweeter.

 

Went to my local sound shop today to finish up my system. I had the Infinity Kappa 5x7's put in, and the sub hooked up. The installer took a bit of time to get the first door taken care, but got the other one and the rears taken care of. I'm not getting any mid bass out of the rears so I'll have to go back to get it taken care of. I believe he was having problems with the crossovers. The Kappa's sound great and the bass hits pretty good. I'll leave the final judgment up in the air until I get the issue with the rears taken care of.

 

Was there any fit issue with the door panels? I do all my own install work and would rather not be surprised by anything.

 

I'll ask him for details when I see him again. It looked like it was going to be a tight fit (tweeter to grille), mounting depth was fine. I didn't get back into the install bay to see him do the full job. I like to do most of my install work, but wasn't going to take any chances. I'll find out what he did to get themin there.

An old SonyES 2 channel Amp

Back in my younger days I would have a car audio systme that would rival the price of the car it was installed in. As I got older I lost interest in car audio and was happy to go with a stock system and a sub. The Mustang in my driveway was begging for a nice modest system. The Shaker systems seemed a bit overkill to me, please don't flame me.

I added the Sony HU first. I have the IUP so the Sony was perfect. The brushed aluminum finish fits right in with the dash. I also added Steeda A/C ***** as well. These two items gives the center portion of the dash a splash of aluminum to offset the black color. It looks really sharp. The HU does everything i could ask of it. MP3's sound great, XM controls, EQ, and more. The JL Sub and amp are from my old system. They have been kicking for over 4 years now and are giving me the added thump I want. I was considering a few different speaker before going with the Kappas. The Kappas are the best speakers I have ever had in a car. The highs are as crisp as can be and mids are clean. The Kappas in the back went in with no problems. The door mounts had to be bent slightly to account for the Kappas tweeter height. They mounting frame on the door was bent slightly in and the Kappas were mounted and screwed in as if they were OEM. Turn on the system and get your settings straight and you are good to go. The sound is crystal clear at any level. I am happy with my 'basic' system.

Could you post a pic that includes the Steeda *****? I've been curious as to how they'd look in this overall setup.

 

Is the antenna on the fender a chopped '05 one or one from an SN95? I can't tell from the pics, but it looks shorter. Thanks.

Thanks! That's the perfect height, so I'll be looking for one soon, rather than chopping one to length. It looks much better with the new antenna.

How does the bezel around the stock radio come off? I am getting ready to install a different head unit.

You start at your center console. Lift the cover and there are 2 screws in the back. Unscrew them and put them aside. Start lifting up on the console from the back and work forward. If you want to take the console totally off you will need to unscrew the shift **** and unclip the boot. Lift up on the console and push it slightly back towards the seat. Slowly pull the 2 side plastic trim panels out and down, they are held on by pressure clips. There will be a panel that has the switches hooked up to them (A/C, fan, info button, reset button etc...). Unscrew this panel and pull it out enough where you can unclip the switches. Unclip the switches and remove the panel (its going to tight, but it can be done.) The switch on the lower right (when you are sitting in the driver seat) is the hardest. You can leave that one on and remove the radio if you are carefull. Once the panel is removed you can unscrew the radio. The basic radio has 2 connections plus the antenna connection. The new radio harness connects into the one closest to the driver side, the other one is not used for the aftermarket head unit. Remove the connections and remove the radio. Insert your new kit and head unit, plug in the harness and antenna. Just do everything in reverse order to put the console's back together again. Make sure the switches are properly connected. It's pretty simple, but a bit time consuming at first. Most of the screws have a head requiring a socket type of screwdriver or socket set.

Sorry Im a bit late with a response, hectic few weeks.

I have the Steeda A/C *****. The other ones pull of and you slide these on. They look real nice and the top portion of each **** has a lense to allow the stock led to shine thru. The *****, along with my new head unit give the center console the needed silver look to offset the black.

I really like where you mounted the XM Antenna, I cringed every time I thought about where to mount mine-one question though, how is the reception through the glass? With the defrost grid I would expect some loss of signal. BTW great choice of headunit-I ordered mine today!
