Nothing major, but I thought I'd post it since this is the first thing I did to the interior.

I just bought these from CASP3R. Thanks, Brad!
This is something I've been wanting to do before I even got the car. I just never liked the silver vents.

It is interesting that you bought the IUP and went for a look that I have by adding a Woodview kit to the IUP lite interior.

I didn't buy the IUP for the dash. I bought it for the message center. At first I didn't even want the IUP dash panels, I just figured I'd put up with them. Now I like the way it breaks up all the black on the dash.

One of the first things that jumped out at me the first time I sat in a new one about a year ago was I didn't like the vents.
Then I saw the Saleen Mustang from SEMA and knew I had to swap them out.
I'm pretty happy with it. In fact I think it's time to go for a drive so I can get used to them.

I agree, I like the contrast. Maybe you can pass on the silver ones to someone that wants them...(not me, i like my black ones too) Welcome to the "I've torn apart a brand new car" club.

I think that would match up nicely with the MGW chrome AC ***** with their black inserts.

So far everything I've done to my car, (see sig) I can easily undo if I want with the exception of cutting the antenna. (be pretty cheap to get a new one though)

And here I thought I was the first to think of this mod. LOL!

I still haven't done mine but I just scored some black vents from an '05 Expedition that I think will work out nicely. The chrome trim has to go, of course. They resemble oil caps and just look a little too busy. I'll replace that part with the Mustang chrome trim.

Anyway, how did you remove these from the dash? Is there a tool for this or do you just pull hard? I don't want to break anything on my '06.
Thanks,

Gerardo

I left the vents attached to the chrome ring and just did a direct swap.

Yes, you just pull hard to get them out. There's another thread around here somewhere that describes how and it pictures of the vents removed. I'll see if I can find it.

EDIT:
Can't find the thread or the pics. I'll have to post them from home tonight.

That's great news then.
I scored some 2005 black Expedition vents I thought might work. I paid $26.06 shipped for a set of 4. I just now took them apart and the plastic pieces (vents, chrome rings, etc..) were very "forgiving". I guess I'm used to the brittle flimpsy Fox pieces of yester-year. LOL! They came apart in no time flat!

I'll just transfer the vents and re-use the Mustang chrome trim. The Expo rings are a bit too busy and look like oil caps, to me.

I would just like to add that anyone attempting to pull the vents out may want to do it after their car has sat a little in the sun. The plastic is more flexible than when you've had the a/c blowing thru them all day.
Thanks a lot for your response!

Gerardo

Good advice. Didn't think of that even though I did the same thing when putting on my GT500 pedal covers.

So I guess you don't need the pics now, huh?

Post pics when you're done.

Bad news all,
The Expo vents are a full "1/8 larger than the Stangs. I can't believe Ford would spring for another set of molds for the exact same plastic piece! They're identical! Looking at them, you'd think Ford recycled them from the Stang.

I can probably remove the entire A/C vent assembly but it'll mean using the Expo rings, which I really don't like.

Crap! Looks like I may have to spring for the Stang ones. They're 36 bucks, each!

Shouldn't be too hard to find someone to swap with you. Try asking in the WANTED section here on TMS.

I swapped my silvers with a black set from a V6. Pull 'em out and push 'em in, and done. We're both happy.

My son was the only one to notice, probably because he can't see over the passenger side dash very well...

I have the charcoal aluminum IPA and those dark vents would look perfect, does anyone know the part number for these vents so I can get a set ordered? Thanks.

blownGT,
There's not a specific part number for the vents (& trim rings). Unfortunately, if you want to buy them new, you have to buy the whole panel. However, if that's the way route you want to take, the cheapest way is to buy 2 center section panels and pull the vents out of those. Otherwise you'd have to buy the instrument panel section, the center section, AND the right side section, OR four of the right side section. See picture below.
(sorry I don't have the part numbers for any of the sections)

The cheapest way to do it is to swap with someone who doesn't have the IUP (Interior Upgrade Package) Or you might could find someone who has already swapped theirs out and buy their black ones.

Actually you need to find any 05-07 Mustang without the IUP. It's not a V6 or GT specific option.

I’m going to the Ford dealer later this week to get these ordered, once I get the correct part number I’ll post it along with the price.
