check this out guys, this thing looks pretty sweet: voice recognition, navigation, touch screen, bluetooth for your phone, hard drive for music, cd, mp3, dvd...

I bet its gonna cost 1 arm and both legs.

But its extremely cool. I've been wanting a double din unit like this for my car, I just don't wanna spend a small fortune on it.

Maybe so, but it sounds like a winner. I'll be very interested to see the price

About what I expected.

I'll add a Pioneer Sticker to my car for one, if anyone is listening. :P

Thanks Brad

I think I just found my new head unit. If list is $1999, it'll probably street for $1699-$1799. I get a decent employee discount because the outfit I work for sells car audio too, so I should be able to shave several hundred off that.

No wonder they jrecently put out $300 rebates on the AVIC-D1 (and N1/N2 I think). The $1999 cost is cheaper than Eclipses HD offering. Thats a good deal, but not worth it IMO, maybe if it can be purchased for $1600. I'd love to have the bluetooth capability though.

yeah, the bluetooth part of it is the coolest part to me, but for $2000, I'll be saving for quite a LONG time.

Unfortunately guys, the new AVIC unit is not a dual DIN unit, it's a typical for Pioneer single DIN unit with a 7" flip out touch screen. Something I would sway everyone away from do to the short life span of the gears.

I'd love something like this in doubleDIN, but am worried about tying it into the Shaker1000 harnesses and having everything work properly.

The press release says clearly it requires a double DIN bay. I'd be really suprised if they could fit a motorized screen, a hard drive and dvd drive plus AV electronics all in a single DIN chassis...

"The AVIC-Z1 replaces any existing factory system with a double DIN in-dash opening...." - straight from the website I gave. The motorized face is probably similar to the other double din units available now where it allows different viewing angles of the screen and to allow you to insert your cds, etc.

I wonder if the AVIC-Z1 will be crippled like the D1 was from the factory - you can't use any of the nav input features while moving. I just now figured out how to bypass the D1; I'd love to have Bluetooth and the built-in HD but I'll wait to see if the Z1 can be bypassed before upgrading.

Well see what the final unit looks like, I'm just going off the info I've read over the last few months on the unit. Take a look HERE, this is the link to the MobileMAG announcement that actually has an image to one. I hope it's a double DIN, if more manufactures get on board with Double DIN units that's just better prices for us in the end.

I've got a Pioneer rep that I put a call into to see if they can get me any literature on the unit and he said they don't have much on the unit yet but I'd get a copy of the sales release as soon as he received anything on it. I'll post up if I get anything.

So I was thinking about getting one of the AVIC-D1s

Should I hold off for a bit and then buy one?

How long do you guys think I should wait... if you think I should wait at all?

The AVIC-Z1 may be worth waiting for. It will hopefully hit the market in the next 3-4 months.

With a group-buy we may be able to negotiate it down to around $1000 per unit. Anyone interested?

And yes, usually, enabling mods start hitting the market several months after the introduction of the new units. I think the unit is a double DIN based on other similar HardDrive models that are listed on Pioneer's Japanese website.

With a Metra harness that is not an issue.
