Leather Door Inserts
Further update...
I just got off the phone with the guy and there going to be able to do it next Thursday... The good news is that with them being far away, they are going to come down remover the door panels and take them back up to their shop, install the leather and bring them back to me, so I don't even have to go up there (a little over an hour away)... So that's a bonus! The bad news is that they probably won't be able to get them back to me till the next day, so my car won't have door panels for the day and into the next day... Not too big of a deal... Once installed (next Friday), I'll take pictures and post!
Now, I wait....

Well, as of now, I still do not have the inserts!
I was supposed to get them Jan. 26th, but the guy called to say that they needed to push the date back till the following week (this week) cause of some illnesses in his shop, so that's was cool... We made a new appointment for Monday and when Monday morning came, nothing... I called about 11am to see what the status was, and got his voicemail, so I left a message with my info and I haven't heard from him since... So, I just tried calling him again, and got his voicemail once more and left another message... I am a bit frustrated...
I am about to say forget it...

Jay (or anyone else who might know) -
Assuming you had the red inserts from the factory, would you still have as much trouble if you wanted to change color (i.e. gray leather inserts)? Or is it just the "standard" door panels that are difficult to get the leather on?

I had IUP/Black inserts and I changed to white. So the "trouble" is both in my opinion. You just need to find a good installer that is willing to tuck the leather into the slots. Mine is still holding up fine!

I've been looking into their Mach 1 style seat kits.

I like that! Funny enough, I would get the vinyl version, as it tends to hold up much better then leather.

Digging up an old thread here - the factory material on the door panels (if you have any color leather interior) is vinyl - not leather, and it's glued over the existing plastic panel. Get with a reputable upholstery shop near you and have them order from their Ford book V2819 w/aberdeen. This is for the red. The black/dark charcoal or parchment will obviously be a different number, but the aberdeen would still apply. Aberdeen indicates the diamond shaped impressions. Or pay the shop to do it for you. Either way, now you have the info
Have fun!
I just ordered a yard of the red aberdeen vinyl from a shop and next weekend will finally finish what Ford started with the ICAP - that panel above the rear seat arm rests

I want a step-by step and some pics when this is done. I have a few parts I'd like to redo, and I was having trouble finding the right parts. I thought Aberdeen was either a color or a Kenny Wayne Shepherd song.

Yeah I was under the same impression about the term "aberdeen", but today when I was looking at all the different materials, patterns and textures in the Ford book at the upholstery shop, the word "aberdeen" was centered over the "crimson red" and "dark charcoal" group. He told me that aberdeen indicated the diamond shaped indentations, not any specific color.
OK gang I just got back from the upholstery shop and picked up the vinyl - it's a dead match for color and the diamond-shaped impressions! V2819 w/aberdeen. This is for the red. I was hoping to start this weekend, but that probably won't happen. Actually now that I think about it, it probably won't happen until the weekend of 8/26
I know it's a long way off but a few things have come up and their on successive weekends. I'll definitely start a new thread with pics, lines and arrows and maybe even a few 8x10 glossy's

Im curious as to what brand of glue is being used. My guy that is doing my inserts says that the glue he used will not adhere to the plastic and there is no way he can guarentee that it will not come off.
Im thinking of masking off my panel and dyeing it redfire.

Edit - a little more info: He recommended using one of these
- a spline roller tool - you can get them at Lowes or Home Depot, and some of the rubber ribbing/spline (to use as a finish "trim" to fill the gap between the vinyl material and the interior plastic - I also plan on putting it around the door panel). Once you have the material in place and the adhesive is still pliable, you use the spline roller tool to push it into the v-groove as deep as possible. I guess a flat blad screw driver would also work but be careful not to puncture the vinyl. Then once everything is completely dry, cut the vinyl material inside the groove of the panel. This is all speculative until I actually get in there and start doing it, but this is the process I'll be following.

Red Leather/vinyl inserts
I have a 2006 GT and like a lot of people the door inserts are peeling - I see where some ppl have gotten new material to install where can I get the replacement inserts in the Red and is there only one color of red for that year?
