K&N Check Engine Light

I installed a K&N CAI (63-2565) back in December on my 08 GT. The reason why I picked this set is because I didn't want to mess around with tuning it.

So far, I had the check engine light come on twice in as many months. I know the first time, I was really stepping on it and second time was driving around town.

Each time, I disconnected the negative terminal and light went off. This is a real pain the rear and was wondering if anyone else had the same issue and what can be done about it.

Thanks.

I've had the 57-2565 for 4 1/2 years and have never had the light come on. However, I run 93 octane as insurance just in case the "no tune" approach leaves it a little lean.

It may not even be directly related to the K&N ...
have you checked the codes?

Thanks for the suggestion. No, if it happens again, I think I will have to do exactly that.

Talk about resurrecting an old thread! Anyways, after about a half dozen times of resetting the check engine light by disconnecting the battery, finally made the trip to auto zone to get a reading. Best part it did not cost me a dime. Turns out that code was p0174, which one common cause could be dirty MAF. Look at http://www.obd-codes.com/p0174 to see if this applies to you. These filters are coated with oil and that may be a cause. My car runs better and all I did was to buy a can of CRC MAF cleaner, took me about 10 minutes. It's been a few days and no light but only time will tell.
