IUP gauge question

I noticed in this thread about the Project Source Horse gauge install Brad mentions "guess I need gas" and the fuel section of the IUP gaude cluster has gone red (the rest of the display being blue) PSH thread

I vaguely remember hearing that a fault condition like low oil pressure would do that to the appropriate gauge, but it never occured to me the fuel level would. I've never seen mine do that... I'm wondering if I have a faulty cluster maybe?

the way to tell is to drive till she runs out, if it never changes, you have a faulty gauge.

it needs to be really low and must have the lights on. I believe its bellow 25kms

Mine doesn't turn red until I have less than 10 miles until empty. I ran it down to 3 miles until empty and it only took 15 gallons of gas, so the reading isn't exactly accurate.
