INSTALLING RADIO

I'm putting in a replacement Shaker 1000 for my defective one. This replacement is a good used unit. Someone told me that I will have to download info from a Ford computer for this unit to function once it's installed. I thought it was simple plug and play. Any thoughts?

If it is the same year and style radio you might be able to just plug and play, but if it is different you will more than likely have to visit the dealer. Everything in these cars are interconnected via the smart junction box which controls all major functions even the lights.

My car is a 2005 and this unit is out of a 2006. I figure the plugs are the same, but just didn't understand what might not work without downloading data from a Ford computer. One of our techs here at the dealership said that you had to use a Ford program after you got it put in to make everything work, because of a built in processor in the radio itself. Why the hell does everything have to be so complicated?

If you are replacing a 2005 for a 2006 shaker 1000, I dought that any changes need to be made. The best solution is to plug the unit in and check for proper operation.

to put a 2009 shaker in a 2005, you will need an antenna adapter.

Did the install Saturday morning, and it's up and running fine. Everything seems to work, and I don't see where anything needs to be programmed. I'll probably let one of the techs at work check it out and run a diag if it needs it, but so far, so good. The only thing it seems to not like is one cd that I have that I burned myself. It's world's better than the original so far.

Are the lights working on the Radio ?

I remember that to get the lights to work when swapping the radio you needed to get it re-programmed by the dealer ?

Everything worked. I had one of our techs here at the dealership download data and try to reprogram it with the Ford scan tool, and it said it didn't require it. He said I must have got lucky, but so far, so good!
