I am going to install the felt on the inside of the door seal that runs on the window this weekend. I have the windows tinted and they are all scratched (being replaced for free by installer). I have removed a lot of interior door panels over the years, but I have never really cared too much about damaging anything.

On this car it is obviously a different story. I want to know if there are any hidden clips or screws that I should know about before starting. Also if there are any tricks I should know about. I could probably put the felt in without removing the panels, but I don't think it would be as good a job that way.

Please give me your advice!!!

if the installer is replacing the tint he should also be able to apply the felt. mine did.

Same here BeOnEdge. Heck, when I originally scheduled the retint, the owner said he would have to charge me to retint the fronts because it was caused by the car and not the tint job. I very carefully explained to him that we had DISCUSSED installing the felt BEFORE the car was tinted and HE was the one that decided the window felts didn't need it. Not me. He decided I had a pretty point! But they were going to charge me for the felt material (but not for any labor or the tint itself), which I agreed to (I would have been charged for the felt if they had done it the first time anyway).

The funny thing was when I brought it and had the windows retinted, they didn't charge me a thing. And I must say, they did a MUCH better job this time. The first time, they left so much water under the tint it took over a month to completely cure fog free and there where a few very small issues under the tint as well. That tint guy must have been having a bad day! On the second try, they nailed it. They got so much water out from under the tint it didn't fog at all and it looks perfect. Not one single bubble anywhere of anysize under the film.

You should be able to do it yourself without any problems. The only PIA is getting the door panel off. If you do a search on this forum you will find a diagram of how to take the door panel off, that may help you. After you take the door panel off, clean the existing channel liner with alcohol. Then peel the backing off the moleskin and affix it directly to the existing liner.
It took about an hour for both doors. No scratching whatsoever since!

When did you get your Mustang?

I'd be curious to see who get scratches and who doesn't attributing to when the car was built. I had mine tinted about a 3 weeks ago, so far no scratches (received car in May).

Just wonder if Ford maybe changed something in the sill?

Nicole, the felt I have is actually from you. I got my Mustang in December. I don't think there have been any changes from Ford. I have a parts layout from another post on how to do it, thanks.

Look at the inside liner, if it is not felt, you will have an issue.

My tinter said he was not going to charge me for the retinting, but he was going to charge me for the labor to put the liner in. I said I'll see if I can get the liner put on before I bring it to you to tint. He suggested not having the liner put on before the tint, because it would cause impurities in the window. I know he is pulling my leg, but he is the place I went to originially. They do Exotic cars, so I guess they are use t charging for everything....

You know how you are supposed to keep the windows inoperable for 1-2 days. Well what happens when you open and close the door?? Our windows go up and down. Won't this affect the tint, etc.? ??

Technically, yes, my advice, get it tinted and leave it for a day. I think a day would be fine. Then after that, you can drive, but don't use the windows so much.

I've also had mine done twice. The first time the windows were all scratched to heck. When I went the second time, he did them for free and he gave me a bunch of the felt for free. He said he'd install the felt but went I went, he stopped working on someone elses car to do min. Now that's sevice. I went striaght to the ATM and gave him a $40 tip! I now have a tint guy that gives me great deals on any car I bring him. He'll also come to you. Get your windows tinted while your at work!

But on topic, I didn't even take off the door panels. Take a few q-tips and a bottle of alcohol and clean out the inside of the window seal. Cut your felt to size. (You will have to cut it at an angle towards the mirror). Carefully slide felt into place to double check the fit. DO NOT TAKE ADHESIVE STRIP OFF UNTIL YOU DO THIS. Once you have the right fit, start at the end towards the mirror. I used tweezers to start peeling the adhesive strip back very slowly as I mad sure the felt was in place. All in all it was a 15 minute job for both sides.

I had mine done yesterday. I didn't have a chance to put the mole skin on yet but I'm going to do that tomorrow. I don't put my windows down until after the first two days are so. It's best to let them bake in the sun to get as much water out as possible.

Don't roll them down until you put the felt in. All it takes is one time rolling them down.

Sit inside your car. Roll the window up. Look at the seal at the bootom of the window. You install the felt in between the window and the seal.

I just had mine tinted today too. I know I am going to be afraid to roll the windows down even after 2 days. I need some felt also.

I have completed the felt job today. Once you have done one door, it literally took about 10 minutes to do the other door. That is remove the door panel, remove the door seal, apply the felt and trim it, replace the door seal and replace the door panel.

There is a post on here of the exploded parts view showing the hidden screws, that is a must see to know where they are (and there are a couple hidden ones) The first door took about 30 minutes and as I said the second one was no more than 10.

It is a bit tricky to remove a couple of the covers, but I have a few odd shaped picks that did the job.

Some people have installed the felt without removing the door panel, I really find it hard to believe that it would look as good as doing it with the panel removed.

Did it without removing door panel but it would be easier for some to remove the panel, it took me almost 10 min to do both sides I even had the dealer ask if it was done at the factory because he was getting complaints about the scratched tint...LOL told him to take a look at a couple of the forums and maybe he could find more answers...
