RRRoamer... a man after my own heart! Go with a 6000W generator in the trunk! LOL. (Won't do much for your mileage, but will sure help with winter driving). I'm doing ONE 4-guage and splitting it with a distribution box in the trunk to power my two amps. BTW - did you pick it up yet?

One 4 gauge would work....now I am going to be running two Boston acoustic amps..in the neighborhood of 8oo+ watts as a electronics guy I can tell you 10 will work great...each one capable of running a 500+ RMS apiece...of course you must buy quality wire.

I'm waiting on a couple of straggling components already ordered: crossovers for component 5 1/4" mids and 1" dome tweeters for rear deck, and replacement head unit. I already installed 5 1/4" coaxials with crossovers in the front doors (McIntosh) - what a difference already! But now I can really tell how underpowered the stock system is. I'll ask a woodworker friend to build me a decent box for my 10" sub; specs for the box are in the sub's owner's manual (13 x 13 x 9.5 sealed box). I have two McIntosh amps for power, a stereo amp for the rear deck speakers, and a 4-channel (one channel each for the fronts and the remaining two bridged for the subwoofer) - total continuous rms about 400W (which is enough for awesome sound on the inside. Let the neighborhood entertain itself! Everything McIntosh, just like my home system. How would you suggest mounting the amps?

Robert,
While you had that off, did you happen to get a clearer pic of the antenna? Still playing with the idea of putting in a power antenna, have not pulled mine apart yet to look. I know it's tight but there are flexible line units you can install in tight places. Thanks.

I've had the amps in the house since trading my Lincoln Town Car about two years ago... I have the larger of the two powering my rear speakers of ht set-up using an a/c power source, but bought both successfully off of e-bay. Co-ax speakers w/crossovers were bought brand-new off of e-bay (there's a guy in Canada, "buy_sell_everything" who bought out his employer's stock of Mc when they discontinued it (I got the sub from him and he's willing to deal). There's a guy selling new McIntosh mids and tweeters on e-bay, bought from him a couple of times (I would highly recommend, I think the username is "rdengler." Just go to ebay.com, under search enter "mcintosh" and I think the speaker components are listed separately under "home audio" and "car electronics." Reliable and reasonable!). I happened upon a guy selling McIntosh crossovers at a "buy it now" price and he might have one set left. Head unit was actually an option on late-model Subaru Legacy Outback VDC models and I made sure I bid high enough to get the only one I've seen on e-bay - got it for $370. Those who know Mc know that was quite the bargain! Anyway, a tip on McIntosh: you can't beat it for sound quality and reliability, but you pay for it. Know what you want, lay low and watch, then JUMP QUICKLY at the opportunity to buy! Good luck, Jordan, and nice to hear from someone who's heard of it!

Thanks man.....

I am new to car audio..... but I am really into McIntosh, Marantz, and NAD hi fi stuff and I have a little hobby of buying and restoring old receivers/amps/tuners. So naturally when I saw McIntosh car amps, I knew that was for me, but it seems much of their stuff has been discontinued. I guess I will begin watching ebay again.

inner fender comes off with only four half turn plastic screws...very easy! As of the power antenna...I really don't have any pics...but once you get the tire and fender off you should be able to do it easy. Takes about ten minutes to look! Go for it.

Congratulations, RRRoamer!! Best wishes and I hope you get at least enough sleep to dream about it a little!

Jordan, have I got a website for you! www.audioweb.com Talk about deals on vintage equipment! You'll go nuts, like I did. Just bought a Mc7250 stereo amp, 150wpc for the home system to replace the car amp going into the Mustang: mint, and only $650 (listed for $2400)! The wife is gonna killlllllllll me! But then again, she might not even notice!
