Well theres about 100 reasons that could be happening lol. First i would say go through all the settings on the cd player and make sure nothing is turned off. Then next thing would be check all the wiring and make sure its hooked up correctly. Is it a shaker system?

The amps are in the kick panel area on the drivers side for the speakers

I have a shaker 500 with an aftermarket head unit I installed myself. I just wanted to add here that there are also fuses for the shaker amps in the fuse box in the engine compartment. If you have a Shaker 1000 system there will be 30 amp fuses in positions 6 and 9. If you have a Shaker 500 system there will be a single 30 amp fuse in position 16.

That being said, if the stereo is wired correctly and is actually working you should still hear sound from the upper door speakers and the speakers from the rear. I pulled the fuses myself to test and all I lost was the bass.

I would pull the stereo and check for appropriate wiring. Hopefully the previous owner purchased the appropriate harness and did not attempt to simply splice into the factory wires. Sometimes people try to cut corners and you end up with a terrible mess. If you dont feel comfortable doing that then you might want to have a car stereo shop have a look at it.

Do you have contact information for the previous owner? Would you be able to contact them and find out when or why it stopped working?

Proper harness:

Have a look at this as well. Might help you trace down the problem if its wiring related.
