Final product

[attachmentid=19981]

The cool thing is it doesn't look like a trunk button, just a rubber bumper

That seems way too easy and cheap not to do. Great job. Now I've got something to do tonight. Thanks for the info/pics.

man ford must have saved a lot of money by not putting one of these in to begin with

it looks like your instructions were very clear and it's good for those people that wanted an interior trunk release.

Dustin - nice write up and thanks for doing the leg work on this simple yet effective mod!!

Both my previous cars had the trunk release button and I do miss it on my '05 GT....I'll probably go the "hidden" route somewhere along the console/underdash area.....I'm also going to check into the Lincoln LS trunk release system (handles/cables) that mount in the trunk - so the seats can not be opened from the interior....don't yet know what would be involved but will take a look and see what I can rig up. For some reason, probably just me - the key fob is just not as useful as having a trunk release button.

Too true Andy - I really like this '05 GT - but in some ways it is really "bare" compared to my 2000 GT.

I was thinking of ordering the actual trunk release button from an LS or even the 2000 GT had one - yellow button with black surround....not too stealth though!

I'm an ME that builds a lot of manufacturing fixtures, some with electronic controls. I'm not so good with AC circuits, but 12V DC circuits are a joke.

I was going to use that too, but not stealthy at all. A car thief won't look twice at the button I used.

I don't understand the purpose of hiding the button. So how do you lock the rear seats? If a thief really wants or knows what you have in your trunk they will just punch out the trunk lock on the lid with one strike.
